Unable to update Maps on Amundsen

Featured Replies

In the first picture are the details of my system before the dealership attempted the update of my maps. The second picture is the error received when attempting the map update. While I wait and wait and wait for the dealership to contact with a solution, I hope you smart people can assist. They sent me home with the 2018 maps for my Amundsen Sat Nav, Bluetooth, DAB+ system. Currently, I have no working maps. 2015 no longer works and as mentioned, the 2018 upgrade is failing. When the SD card is inserted, it tells me there are sources, however, it fails to update.  This has been quite the saga, as the update portal for Skoda failed to find updates, despite there being updates. Skoda eventually agreed to supply the new maps for free and install them. They were obviously unsuccessful and here I am. My car is a Skoda Yeti 2015 and I'm based in Australia. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Australia is a bit awkward. I'd send you a working maps card if you were in Europe but clearly they wouldn't work for you. Can you find someone over there with working maps and simply copy those?

Oh, brain fart moment.

Just seen you have a Yeti. There's no "update" procedure needed. Once the maps are copied into the card all you do is insert the card into the slot and use the nav as normal. Trying to update the unit is not something you have to do with the maps.

That maybe true, but this is what happens when either SD card is inserted and I press the NAV button. The card can be locked or unlocked, it doesn't change the end result.

Then your maps are not correct. Can you download them from the Skoda website and copy them onto the card again?

It's the original SD Card from Skoda that came with the car and worked fine before, and the 2018 maps supplied by Skoda. So at least the original card should work in theory.

Are they ANY other files on the card - such as those added by an Apple mac?

Did you unzip the files onto the Skoda SD card, or just copy the zip file?

Did all the files get copied? The newer maps are much larger, and some older SD cards need to be reformatted to make the cluster size smaller for all the files to fit.

Size shouldn't be an issue as the Australia maps are much smaller than the EU maps. Although the Amundsen EU maps from 2014 were much larger than the latest 2019 files curiously so it appears as though they're finding better ways of organising the file structure. The Amundsen maps should be about 7Gb for Australia.

The spurious Mac files is a possibility though, it's been known to confuse many people. Although if an sd card is dealer supplied then I doubt it's going to be downloaded and unpacked with a mac (but you never know).

Anyhow, having slept a while and had coffee this morning, how's about this for a fix? Ignore the Skoda product for the momnent (as many others are doing) and simply download the VW version, unzip it on a windows pc, copy to your sd card, and try that. Given you're having issues somehow, I've downloaded Australia, unzipped it all, and uploaded it to my webspace for you.

All you need to do is download these 5 files, put them in a folder called "Maps" on your computer, and copy the "Maps" folder with all these inside onto your sd card. Best format your sd card first, and if you choose you could also save the maps folder which is already on the sd card to your computer just in case.

Thanks mate! It's about bedtime, so I'll give it a whirl in the morning and let you know. Thanks again :)

How'd you get on with this?

Hey @Rustynuts apologies for the delay getting back to you. I've been unsuccessful downloading the maps folder from your Google maps. I've tried a few times and it is just stuck on attempting to zip the folder. It's probably the crap internet I have at work and home, Australia's internet sucks! Do you have a link to the VW maps? I might try via the site to see if I have better luck.

Cheers!

Thanks, @Rustynuts - good find! I downloaded the maps, unzipped the folder and copied it onto a newly formatted FAT32 SD Card (same as the 2 other cards I have from Skoda). This time rather than identifying there's a map on the card (like the others) it couldn't find any suitable media.

Meanwhile, the lady I had been dealing with from Skoda has left the company and the new person wants me to go back to the Dealership (who broke my current maps and couldn't get the new maps to work). I'm awaiting her next response.

You have to use the genuine Skoda SD card mate. You can't use any other ones.

Rookie mistake. I formatted the Skoda SD card and copied the maps folder to the card. I now get the original error that he detects a navigation database, but it's still not reading. I don't know what Skoda have done.

Looks like the unit is faulty then. Possibly repeated attempts to update the units software.
