New Petrol Octavia VrS or Octavia Sportline?

Featured Replies

Hi, this may be a strange question!

I currently have the car below, my PCP runs out in about 6 months.  Wondering if I should change the VRS for a petrol DSG Sportline.  I don't fully use the extra power of the VRS, although I love it, I was wondering what people thought about the Sportline.  I assume it's a bit cheaper and better MPG? Or would I be too disappointed?!  Has anyone changed to a Sportline?

Thanks

If I were going for a new car on another PCP in 6mths, I'd be considering the next generation Octavia which I believe is due for UK release in the Autumn.

Ahh good shout! Just don't know if these would be too expensive, and therefore not much discount, however, worth a thought, thanks.

Depends on the £££. I would stay vRS anyway due to the independent rear suspension. Torsion bar on 18’s is bad. Put me off buying an Elegance estate that had the 18 inch Golus wheels. Vega’s just look damn good though, far better than Gemini’s. I want a set of 19 inch Vega’s to replace my Xtreme’s!!

Thanks Sasha, the good thing is I still have some time. Anyone else heard anything about a 'new' Octavia in the Autumn?

Looks like it will have the public unveil at Frankfurt SEP/OCT 2019 then go on sale immediately afterwards with first deliveries early January 2020. This happened when the Karoq was launched late 2017 and we collected ours in January 2018.:time:

What about an SE-L with the 2.0 TSI 190?

Looking at the Scala I wonder will the next Octavia keep the standard parking brake?

I'm curious about the next model too. Think I'll be holding onto my own Octy to see what the new beast looks like.

Hadn't thought of that....but I will now!

Hopefully it'll get IRS being over 150bhp

Hopefully not! I know quite a few people prefer the big awkward manual lever, instead of the small easy convenient button, but for the life of me I can’t understand why.

Yeah fair point - as Sasha says above might be best to stay with the VrS.  Oh well!

2.0 190 has the IRS :)

some people trust mechanical levers and cables more than they trust electronic buttons :P

Tend to be more reliable at releasing as well, assuming you have the strength to operate a manual handbrake. Men prefer to give it a good tug and ladies just like holding it of course.:notme:

Feel like I’m hijacking this thread, sorry...

Before I cancelled my Octavia order, the electronic handbrake was going to be the biggest thing I missed. It’s just so much more convenient and easier. I’m away in Malta at the moment and the hire car is a crappy 308 (how did that ever win car of the year?) and the manual handbrake is really getting on my nerves.

To my mind it’s a bit like auto lights/wipers. Going back to having to do it all yourself feels like such a PITA.

Incidentally I realise how lazy this all sounds :D but electronic brakes are much better!

Do all the tourists about to spend their summer hols on Malta a massive favour and forget to put the manual handbrake on the PUG and watch as it rolls into the harbour, like a scene from Top Gear. Your excuse you are used the convenience of an electronic handbrake button. Sorted, kills 2 birds with 1 stone. SIMPLY CLEVER.:blush

Tempting as it is, sadly I think it would have very little benefit. Pretty much every hire car, and plenty of locals, are Pugs. But then if you’ve ever been to Malta and seen how they treat their cars, it probably makes a lot more sense :giggle:

Not been to Malta yet but my late Grandma loved the place. Would you recommend it for a week (or 2) as a holiday destination? Wouldn't worry about hijacking the thread I do it all the time and only on 3 warning points.:inlove:

That leaves you with 9 points to spare then

Malta - depends what you’re after but yes I would recommend it. This is our 4th year coming for a week in February. It’s a cheap holiday for a week all inclusive (can just be done for under a grand for 2 adults and a kid) and the weather is usually pleasant and warm. For us it’s a nice change to the grey/wet/cold in the UK and we’re tied to school holidays so end of Feb is half term. I have been in the summer some years ago and it was punishingly hot and really busy. Not sure I’d go again in the summer months but Easter/May time, or late September would be good - sea would still be warm in the autumn too.

I was sort of waiting for someone to come up with that... and I get it but for 99.9% of drivers, they’re never going to do that are they?

I'm a Postie & nothing stops the mail !!!

If I tried a J turn I would probably roll my car which would be extremely embarrassing.

If you fancy an estate, the DSG SE-L is now available with 4WD, & according to Skoda is only 0.1 second slower to 62 mph than a vRS 245 estate.....

'Tis a pity that they won't / can't sell the vRS with 4WD though...
