Third Yeti in Eight Years

Featured Replies

Part-Ex'd my 2015 immaculate, unmarked Jungle Green 150 SEL DSG last Monday - now selling at Trans City Skoda, London, E17 - for a 2017 1.2 SEL DSG, very low mileage.  Initial impression - nippy, very quiet and actually feels a 'lighter' Yeti to drive, having had two 4x4 Yetis in 170 - and Euro Six - 150 models previously.   However, having enjoyed a selection of Sat Nav choices - Waze, Apple maps, Google maps - through Apple CarPlay for the last two years, I was totally unimpressed with the built-in Amundsen Sat Nav.  Even though I installed the latest 2019/2020 update from the Skoda portal, I couldn't believe how user unfriendly it is to operate.  Getting it to accept a postcode is a challenge!  I drove back to Gosport after  doing the part-exchange and used Waze through CarPlay - easy to input what you need and it provides a comprehensive description of exactly what is ahead of you - brilliant.  If I had chosen the built-in device, I would still be at the Dealer!  What a faff! I am sure others will disagree, but one man's meat is another man's poison.  Finally, my thanks to Graham (Llanigraham) for his 15 point post on how you generate a postcode on the Amundsen.

Completely agree about built-in SatNav, my 2017 SEL Drive was first car I had with built in SatNav but after using it a few times and being disappointed by routes chosen and missing junctions etc, I resorted to CarPlay and Waze.

I suspect that in a few years built in SatNavs will become rarer as people increasingly use smartphones and their choice of whatever Nav system they prefer - Waze, Google maps etc. etc.

Never had a problem putting in a postcode.

Select New destination, click on city  line of address and a screen opens with postcode option to bottom left.

Put postcode in and you are away?

I do agree that Tom Tom is much better, but I do prefer the built in screen and echo of directions on the maxidot. Tried google maps via the smartlink - it works but not much better and nothing on maxidot.

Personally I like Waze but the big advantage for me is that it doesn’t take over Maxidot so I can still see the info on that I like.

It only takes a couple of presses to get the maxidot to any screen you want.

Now the maxidot screen I hate is the adblu warning of less than 1500 miles and its countdown. That has to be manually changed on every start. Why cant it just display for a few seconds, then revert to the screen you were on before?

How do you get rid of the directions on the maxi dot when using in-built satnav? Couldn’t find a way to do that.

Press the selector switch next to the right hand roller knob. Roll to top item and click to select to go to default maxidot display

Thanks, I will try that. Mind you Waze is just a better SatNav system to use

I have posted my disappointment at the Yeti sat nav, not very user friendly in my opinion and I much prefer my Garmin.

I was surprised my elegance didn't have one but once I had my Google map came up through my radio and I thought it was better than a sat nav
