Sorry,  could you tell me what the initials  DSG stand for?

Direkt Schalt Getriebe

& please a translation for 'S-tronic'

& why when you buy an Audi with a DSG has it a S-tronic?   & a TSI is a TFSI.     Is it just more costly per letter?

@Maud it stands for Direct Shift Gearbox. It is a hybrid of manual and automatic but acts very much as an automatic gearbox as far as the driver is concerned.

Thank you.  We live and learn.   I assume that the two small paddles just under the steering wheel on the column are the gear shifts in question.

The time is 16:43 and I can just about hear you. Thought DSG was Digital Sequential Gearbox using 2 clutches to always have the next gear ready. For example when in 2nd gear, 3rd is already pre-selected so it instantly available. I must keep up at the back of the class or I might miss something. S-Tronic was reserved for Audi and Porsche because they are too posh to be ars*d with calling it D-S-G.Time is now 16:47 for anyone is bothered about the speed I type.:notme:

But what if you are changing down?

Always expects you to change up, but when you are in top gear (maybe 6th or 7th) it expects you want to  change down as there are no more higher gears, then either 6th or 5th gear are ready for you. Remember unlike a manual gearbox you cannot jump 2 gears at once say 3rd to 5th or 4th to 6th. It's only a computer ECU at the end of the day it will never be as flexible as the human brain.:D

Careful! VAG might offer you a job to implement it if they get wind of this!

Latest Octavia DSG gearbox weighs 75kg compared to 47.5kg for the manual gearbox. All that extra weight to accelerate and brake all the time means the heavier DSG car will always use more fuel than the manual. Still waiting for a 300bhp DSG Octavia Vrs owner to show me they are averaging more than 40mpg. Might be in for a very long weight.:time:

Changing down 2 gears is just lovely with a DQ200 DSG,  manual shift or double kick down.

And that can be with whatever, 110/115, 150 or 180 ps or even more.

@shyVRS245

Funnily the heavier than a manual DQ200 DSG in the 2015 1.8TSI 192ps Polo GTI was 250Nm and 320Nm with the manual

yet the DSG was and is quicker, time after time after time.

Total weight of the DSG car with less torque supposed to be heavier.

With VW always put them on corner scales or a weigh bridge.  Also a Dyno....

Has the Ibiza replaced the Alhambra then George? Similar economy I would think but smaller tank therefore shorter range between fill ups.

spelling mistake

No just a loaner.

I had a 1.5 TSI / DSG for a week, then another to just see what crap some were spouting.

The Alhambra has between 630-730 mile range in Winter from 63 litres,

and lucky if does 20 miles to a gallon of oil around the doors and lots of cold starts and short runs, and regens all the time.
