Which OBDeleven dongle ?

Featured Replies

My cars due soon and I was planning on getting an OBDeleven , because I've not got my car yet I can't check myself but i wanted to know if the OBD2 port was easy to access and that the normal OBDeleven dongle was easy to remove, or if I should get the one with the easy remove keyring

It's easy to access.

So the body of the standard OBDeleven is easy to get hold of to remove when plugged in to the superb?

I've seen in other cars where it's in a recess and hard to get hold to remove the dongle,

No need for rings or anything similar. OBD port is easily accessible and you can leave the OBDEleven there permanently, does not interfere with anything. On the MKII Fabia it was hidden inside the fuse box so to plug the VCDS cable you needed to be driving  around without the fuse box cover or cut an opening to it but not such issues with the Superb.

I'll be fitting a jb4 so the OBDeleven needs to be easy in easy out, just didn't know if I could get away with the cheaper one without keyring nipple , sounds like it'll be fine,

Have you put your jb4 on yet newbie69?

The OBD plug of the JB4 is something I hated/hate really. Before that, I loved how I kept OBDEleven always on and quickly connected to it and tweak stuff, but the JB4 needs OBD port exclusivity. To change settings via OBDEleven afterwards you can only do it with engine off otherwise JB4 enters into safety mode etc. etc. But regarding your question you'll be fine, a quick grab and it's out.

Not yet, I want to hit the 1000km mark first, more like a psychological thing though rather than an actual issue. Modern cars can be fully used from day 1. Just wanted to make sure all is working as it should first and not having to remove it to go to dealers, it's not the nicest of processes. 90% it's a piece of cake but the dreaded plug D at the bottom of the engine is what complicates things.

Yea it's a shame that last plug is burried so deep down in the engine bay, I'm very tempted to fit my jb4 as soon as the car arrives but what you say makes very good sense, run the car in and make sure there's no teething problems first, I just found out burger Motorsports makes a pedal box for VAG so I'm going to get one of those too, probably fit that straight away as it's a quick job

Do. Not. Leave. It. In.

For some reason all things not pulled out at the right time will create problems (like drained car battery, wallet or disappointment over that burnt cake that could have been so delicious).

Nope. You just need to be knowing what you're doing. If for some reason you leave the OBDEleven app reading the CANBus and turn off the car that would certainly end up in drained battery. Which is why every time you're done with the adaptations and want to turn it off, you tap "Disconnect" from within the app, but you don't physically remove the dongle. Like that it can stay on the car all the time, had been on my previous car for a few years now without issues.

You may be right but I'm pretty sure I don't wanna try it again :)
