Roof bar distances

So, I have just ordered my Kodiaq SE 1.5 TSi 4x4 DSG 5 seat.  Whilst waiting for the delivery, I'm looking at options for roof bars.  I'm thinking that either the Thule wingbar edge or Whispbar Aero-x will be the lowest noise and drag options, but not sure if there will be enough bar length to mount my narrow roofbox and kayak holder.  Does anyone have either of these roof bars and can tell me the length of the bars with the t-track available, and how much of a gap there is between the bar and the car roof?

Only figure about the roof racks is carry load 75 kg in the manual. No distances whatsoever.

However Thule states that the distance between Wingbars must be at least 700 mm.

The distances I am looking for are X and Y in the below image.  Also looking for how close the bottom of the bar is to the car roof, so I know if I can fit on my kayak holder, as it is a clamp fitting.

Yeah, no idea yet.

I am looking for a Wingbar Edge black, but I dont`d have a car yet. As Wingbar is really low, I will take mu roof box with me to Thule shop to be sure it fits.

Check for technocal data on Thule website.

Kodiaq will take medium sized bars :Thule WingBar Edge 9582

@Stu_Magoo

I have seen Kodiaq with Roof Bars and bike carriers at Skoda Specialist cars Dundee and i think there was at Aberdeen when i was there last week, or it might have been a customers car, have you not seen one there or asked them to show you any bars if there are any for display purposes at the dealership.

They just had standard roof bars on the Kodiaq and Karoq in the showroom.  Was looking for the lower ones that fit just between the rails.  I guess I can go back to the salesman and see if they do have something similar so I can see it.

That picture helps.  With the way my kayak holder works, where the knobs to attach the clamp are on the bottom, I'm not going to have the room.

On a side point, if you just have these bars on, how noisy are they?

With the roof box on at 80mph you know there is something on the roof, it's not intrusive though.

Other than to your wallet as the mpg drops into single figures... :D

I was surprised what little difference the roofbox makes to the MPG of my 190Tdi. At legal speeds it can still manage low to mid 40s mpg. The bigger problem is remembering height restrictions...

I use Thule Wingbar Edge 9582 cross bars. Fit perfectly - I don't like the look of the ones that stick out beyond the built-in rails (although they may be more practical if you want to place multiple attachments).

Thanks for this @silver1011 Been looking to see if the bars I bought for my Seat Leon ST would work on the Kodiaq. I didn't want to buy new bars but couldn't find anywhere that confirmed if the wingbar 961 would be compatible.

I'm thinking of pairing them with the Evo Raised Rail, would this work?

Yep it’ll work. They haven’t changed the bottom mount. I wonder if I can buy the new split rubber track on the top for my ‘OG’ Wingbars.

Use the Thule "Will it Fit."  https://www.thule.com/en-gb/buyers-guide?c=roof+racks&q=mMSWKYE5C

That way you can plug in your current car details, and then your new, and see if it matches (or not).

I have looked at this but it doesn't state the wingbar 961 under the Kodiaq.

Awesome thanks for confirming, I have the Evo Raised Rail and will try today with the 961 Wingbar.

I have seen replacement rubber tracks on eBay, this is an expensive one (you can find cheaper) https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fp%2F1743900277

I noticed that too, strange as they fit our Kodiaq perfectly.

Im purchasing the kit last minute and you saved me a bit of cash there, thanks.

I'm assuming this is down to £££.... Make people buy more stuff. Not very profitable if the kit lasts forever and you only need to buy it once for all your cars.

Wow....the bars could easily fit even a wider car. Ridiculous and poor how Thule doesn't list almost every car as compatible with this size of bar.

Also as mentioned previously the front is much wider than the rear.
