Tesla's mission had always been to speed up transition to EV.

Price cut on 2.4s 0-60mph halo cars => more people interested in electric => less people buy AMG/M5/S6

Such a huge price cut is likely to get attention, that's for sure.

The target market is, imho, more likely to be high-end luxury saloon buyers rather than sports saloons. Although the Teslas' acceleration would embarass even a McLaren or Ferrari, motoring reports don't class them as "sporty" to drive. They have many other virtues which make them stiff competition for the Merc S-class and similar.

On a personal note, I have never seen one being driven "enthusiastically": I imagine the range would plummet on a hard cross-country drive, let alone a track session?

Plenty get driven sportingly on Great Driving roads in Scotland, people bring them or borrow them to do just that.

Plenty range to get from charging place to charging place..

This would be a 'stick to NSL's' type driving roads.

The hatchback and 7 seat option is really enticing.

If money is no issue, I'd get a silver Model Y AWD long range with premium interior and 7 seats, but small aero wheels of course.

They are (or will) make a Roadster so Tesla are Sexy, (R S3XY). Will they also make a Utility vehicle to make (R U S3XY)?

I extended my Karoq lease for 12 months to see if Model Y will be available in the UK by then. Although work had a special offer on a lease for I-Pace only £50 a month more than my Karoq, so maybe I'll have more choices then without breaking the bank. Yay for 0% BIK!

Probably not, I believe the "Y" won't be available in the UK until after Gigafactory Berlin is producing.  Whilst they are making good progress with building that, I doubt it'll be complete until early 2021 with production ramping up after that.  My guess would be that elon will push for maximum output initially for their quarterly sales figure push.  They seem to achieve this by maximum standardisation, i.e. producing the most in demand variations in bulk.  Since UK spec is pretty non-standard, different steering position, pedals, light lenses, etc. I think it will be low on the pecking order for initial production runs.

Actually, VW ID4 might be available for delivery to UK customers around the same time as the first model Y LHD's are delivered to EU customers.  I've seen rumours of ID 4 production starting later this year.  So you may have more choice, but not the one you were expecting.

Well id4 and Enyaq might also fit the bill by then. A bit moot at the moment as Covid-19 has pushed my company to make me redundant, so no spendy until new job turns up.

Sorry to hear the above.  These are bad times for many and the Government needs to rejig the economy quickly to the new normal.  Covid and BREXIT are a perfect storm.  Amazing to think there will be customs at Holyhead shortly and 10% car import taxes, mad world at the mo.

Eventually , just a question of waiting.

Someplace along the line since the legislation introduced on new model EV's that they had to give pedestrians a bit of an audible warning that they were moving at low speeds it seems to have gone all to pot.  (up to 12.4 mph from 1st July 2019 was what the publicity said it was)

The Vauxhall Corsa -e is supposedly loudest at 12 mph but works up to 25 mph.

Well not on mine. Just runs along on Silent mode.

A toot toot would have been sensible from the driver of the red car, or Tesla building into the car the fact some pillock with their back to the road is in front of you and the car is very quiet so make a bit of a noise. to warn people you are close.

Surely they had a PDI when getting Reg Plates and other bits fitted and the Factory for 'Transit Tyre' pressures adjusted after coming off a transporter before setting off on the public highway.
