Can anyone point me in the right direction for PAS pipes?

Thanks. Are the pipes from a VRS likely to be transferable to my old heap? (Assuming same steering rack)

Yes of course.

Less talking and more action is what is needed.

How long should it take a reasonable mechanic to remove old pipes and fit new ones?

Thanks... I dread to think what the garages hourly labour charge is after the price I was quoted!

Well, I've seen main stealers quote £100 + VAT per hour (that's £120 an hour to you and me).

Wasn’t a main dealer, if interested I can PM you the quote

OK. The labour rate should be "prominently displayed" (usually an A4 page on a well in reception) on the premises.

It wasn’t I looked!

At this time of year independent garages tend to over quote hoping a mug will bite.

Don't bite, just go elsewhere.

That’s what I will be doing along with getting my own parts

Good, last time I had a leaking PAS pipe on a Passat IIRC, I simply drained the system, removed the pipe and took it to a hydraulic hose place on a local industrial estate, they replaced the entire flexible hose keeping the original rigid pipe and I refitted it, good as new, better probably since the flexi they used was higher quality.

I’ve got some more pipes, just waiting to see what better garage says, and then get pipes into hydraulic place for a check over

Is the pipe leaking from the rubber hose part or the metal bits?

Will get decent garage next week to check

  • 3 months later...

If no good I have a used TRW set readily available. The pump has already gone onto my lad's car.
