SEL 190 DSG 4x4 collected.

Featured Replies

Well managed at last to pick up the SEL executive Estate 190 DSG 4x4 yesterday and drive it home the 200 miles.  Registered 1st August 2016 and now has just over 1000 miles on it.

Serviced last Sept with 572 miles at 2 years old.

I’m not sure my friend had a total idea of what was or wasn’t on the vehicle as options.

From what I have worked out it has :

Kessy

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Front Assist

Lane Assist

Adaptive Lane Guidance

Blind Spot Monitor

Driver Alert System

Proactive Occupant Protection  (No idea!)

LED Interior Light pack (LED strips around the dashboard and doors- 3 colour options).

Park Assist

19” Trinity Alloy Wheels ( may swap these back to 18” ? )

Canton Sound System

Front Driver and Passenger electric seats and Rear heated seats

Heated front Windscreen (cant see the filaments but it has the button on upper section of the middle rotary dial)  ?

Skoda Rubber fitted boot mat

Boot sill protector

Full size spare wheel

Mud flaps all round

Rear View Camera

I don’t think it has the adaptive Bi-Xenon front lights as they don’t do the ‘dance’ on start up nor has it the 7 LED whiskers although they are definitely there and are clear Plastic not solid Black  -  Can these be coded in?

It doesn’t have Traffic sign recognition but I believe this can be coded in as well.

The Bass box for Canton fills the left hand compartment in the boot and in the left hand was an unused AutoGlym Lifeshine carry case with absolutely everything in it.

Should it have a first aid kit or cargo netting?

Couple of things are disappointing -

The sliding cover in front of the DSG has become detached is a bit flimsy, the rear camera isn’t great quality and  useless at night though I suspect that is because the rear reversing lights are so poor so will change these to LED, same with the rear indicators. The roller cover for the boot is pretty sticky and hasn’t got a decent spring to it.

Pick up on pulling away with the DSG is a bit sluggish. ACC is very very good. Road noise on the motorway is pretty good even with 19” tyres.

Any tips or pointers greatly appreciated. Thanks

Enjoy.

Check the 4 tyres pressures to see if set safely at the PDI, reset if required and reset the TPMS.

Check the Oil level and coolant level now as you have received the car.

Oil stone cold so you know where it is then later @ Operating temp so you know where both levels show.

Seems a good spec.

You can indeed code TSR as you already have Lane Assist which would indicate the A5 forward facing camera is fitted (needed for TSR).  High Beam Assist can also be coded.  You may have it already...switch headlights on to dipped beam and push the light stalk forward (I'm sure it's forward)...if you have HBA a small light icon with an 'A" inside of it will appear on the display between your dials.  That is HBA.

The heated windscreen doesn't use filaments; it's a metallic layer sandwiched between the layers of glass.  It also works well in Summer at keeping the cabin cooler.  If you look from outside the windscreen will have a purple/violet hue to it.  That's a climate windscreen.  Very good it is too IME.

UK cars don't get a first aid kit or triangle but they're easy enough to pick up from EuroCarParts or similar, cheaper than dealer prices too.

If the headlights are bi-xenon then they should be doing a little dance at startup before self-levelling.  There is a common issue with them not doing this and pointing downwards.  I had this happen to me a few times on my MY17 Superb and the only common denominator was when the car had been sat in the cold for a long time.   Apparently there's a dealer fix/update to resolve the issue.

If you don't have the LED 'whiskers' in the headlights then they can't be coded in; the headlight unit itself has a different part no and is physically different.

The rear indicators are PY21W and are easy enough to replace with LED's.  The reverse bulbs are P21W and are equally simple to swap.  I just had a bulb failure on a one year old amber LED on my indicators so I've swapped them both to Philips silver vision bulbs, which are traditional bulbs that appear to be silver/chrome but flash amber.  They are well disguised in the rear cluster and flash as bright as the LED's (side-by-side comparison).  LED reverse lights are a big improvement though.   See the main Superb 3 page for a sticky on light bulbs...

HTH

EDIT:  If it feels sluggish...the accelerator (in any drive mode) can have a bit of 'lag' but it will be more apparent in Eco mode.  Check what driving mode the car is set to.  Sport mode sharpens things up somewhat but there's still an element of lag regardless.  Some people have changed the throttle response to an 'Audi' setting with VCDS and had good results.  It made no difference on mine though.

Thanks Penguin17,

Just picked up a couple of the P21W's for the reversing lights and will do as you say for the indicators.  The front lights are not the super duper ones (Type A) so no dance to do which is why I presume the LED whiskers are not operational. so yes a totally different light. Pity

Good to know about the heated windscreen. My Ford has filaments so that is what I was looking for and sure enough there is a little 'A' for the HBA so all good there!  So TSR is  all that needs to be coded especially if I leave it in Sport Mode in regards to throttle lag.  Not too bothered about the net or first aid its just that the spec said they were standard fitment but now got an extra storage compartment.

Something that I did come across is the ability to watch DVD's on the screen (not on the move) and the quality is great which brings me back to the quality of the rear cam. Wondering if the Audi / VW cams which are really clear could be used?  Just thinking aloud on that!

Thanks again for your help.

@Mactab

Bi xenon AFS was/is standard on the SEL so you do have the adaptive lighting system you just dont have dynamic light systems (the one that stays on high beam and shades areas of beam throw). The AFS modifies the beam pattern but switches between high and low beam as you might expect. The High Beam assist just does that bit for you automatically.

It is really worth studying the pages in the manual to check how the system works and what conditions (e.g. rain or driving in Comfort mode) affect how the AFS responds.

Good luck and enjoy being in the S3 club.

Thanks Sagalout,

yes indeed - just got to that page in the manual (p72) I had kinda got used to having dynamic lighting (having come from a Mondeo Vignale) Obviously my friend missed that tick box when he ordered the car. I will complain to him. lol

OK - Im now beginning to feel foolish!

The headlights do do a little dance at start up. So I'm now presuming I do actually have Dynamic Light Assist with High Beam Assist.

I'm still going to complain as he didn't specify the sun roof or tow bar which was very mean I think!!

Now to tackle the Nav system and update it to the 2019 maps. At the moment I can't see a way of inputting post codes which I tend to use a lot. So I may be back to using Waze on my iPhone.

You probably have the standard AFS system, which doesn't include High Beam Assist or Dynamic Light Assist as standard - they just adjust for the weather, road, speed conditions etc. - but won't shade out oncoming traffic or dip the high beams...unless, of course, you do have all of that.

I've got an L&K from 2016, it's also the TDI190 DSG 4x4, and it's a peach!  Granted, there is the throttle lag, but I'm slowly getting used to that.

If you do get to watch DVDs in the car with the Canton, the surround is wicked...although did catch me out whilst waiting for the Mrs from work a few months back.  Watching American Pie 2 (the only DVD I have in the car at the moment!) and when Jim's mum and dad are driving to meet him at the beginning, I heard a car whizz past and honestly thought a car was driving past me - only when I lifted my head up did I remember that I was in a car park, backed up against a wall, with no moving vehicles anywhere.  Very disconcerting, but wicked nonetheless!

Oh, and update the Sat Nav - it'll no doubt be majorly out of date!  Just an SD card and a whacking great download!

Cheers Adam

yep Ill update tonight on a windows computer. It seems that using Mac causes issues.

yes always best to be backed up against a wall if watching dodgy movies ......I only had The making of Dark side of the Moon available but will dig out others.

Congrats Mactab  your also correct in using a windows based machine! I did the update yesterday on the mac,no joy.Fired up the old windows pc and worked first time so if i was you i'd save a load of time and just use the windows based machine ;)

that's incorrect.

the standard bi-xenons in the Superb comes with AFS that does dynamic light assist (as u've described based on weather, road and speed conditions).  these can also be coded to do High Beam Assist.

then u have the next level bi-xenons which does the same as above, but in addition has the Smart Light Assist (SLA), which keeps the high beams on with masking/shading the light.

Thanks for the correction - I'm still a bit of a dunce when it comes to Skoda - I was a Vauxhall lad for many years (Corsa, 2 Astras (inc VXR) and Insignia) and this is my first Skoda.  I have to be honest, I would probably never have looked at Skoda had it not been for the fact the Mrs is Slovak and had a Felicia back at home.  I am, however, glad I took the plunge as I'm definitely a convert!

OK. Sat Nav updated to the latest version. I was hoping that the update would allow input of post codes. Who on earth inputs the Lat/Long to get them where they wish to go?  So unless I'm missing something I'll be using Waze on my mobile phone as per when I was in my Mondeo. Ford btw charge a hefty sum for a new SD card to update their system so well done Skoda for doing free updates.

Where do people mount their mobile phones. I prefer a mount low down ie. not stuck above the dash on the windscreen.  Any preferred types?

You have the Canton so assume you also have Columbus?  You can input postcodes..

On the older head unit I can't recall if there's the option just to key in a postcode as a place name or you need to look for the PSTCD button just to the left of the spacebar (or in that area) when you bring up the keyboard to enter a place name.

Hi

Yes Columbus with Canton.  Just sorted it - Postcodes were not showing because I had not specified the country ie. United Kingdom in the setup menu.

everything is now showing as 2019 maps.

Thanks

Hi I have the a 2018 L&K with the top spec headlights and even though they swivel for bends (and are superb..lol), they do not "dance" nor have auto dip. If it's any help, I previously owned a Passat with the auto dip feature and it was worthless, so don't mourn its absence.

Ur headlights definately do the dance.

They don't do the dance when u turn the headlights on.

It only does it on Ignition.

If u want u - u can enable High Beam Assist (auto dipping).

Don't bag it until u've experienced it in the Superb.

HBA works very well. Good reaction times.  Very few false alarms n mostly accurate.
