Columbus Map Update

Featured Replies

Having read several posts about updating the Columbus Satnav, I think I am ready to take the plunge for the first time. However, there is just one point. Does it matter whether the SD card is formatted in FAT32 or NTFS?

Pretty certain that it needs to be Fat32, and that worked for me. Also you can use a USB stick if that's more convenient. First time I used a card and the second time a stick.

Fat32 I believe, I did mine a few days ago and it worked perfectly, after I switched from using a Mac to using Windows that is!

Indeed daveb99 is correct, updated myself 2 days ago using exact same formula no issues

Thank you for your help. In Windows 10 the only options seemed to be NTFS or exFAT. Will exFAT work OK or do I need to use a third party utility to format in FAT32?

When i did my update it was definitely exFAT so cant really advise on NTFS compatibility but using exFAT worked so if you can i would use the tried and trusted method  i spent 2days trying to update using mac with no success.Used above method with windows and worked first time,

You could spend an hour here searching for the Mac solution. It has been detailed in various threads. Short story: Mac OS adds a couple invisible files to the SD card/USB stick that must be removed before the infotainment computer will "see" the update.

Indeed i did spend several hours researching the mac indexing issues with the skoda system.Im not particularly tech savvy so changed to the windows method and this was flawless in downloading with no issue and very straight forward thus my message to the op if possible use a windows based machine its much more straight forward

Many thanks to all who helped. In the end I played safe and used a third party utility to format the card in FAT32. After that all went without a hitch, but I was a bit surprised (in a good way) to find that once the update had started, it seemed to continue even with the ignition off and the car locked.

For the Mac owners out there...

FAT32 - If you have a digital camera and format your card in it it will be in FAT32

Those pesky additional files - download a great free little app CleanMyDrive 2; available here, https://macpaw.com/cleanmydrive or on the Apple app store.

This little app is ideal fro cleaning junk files on removeable media such as SD cards and also ejecting them safely. It sits on your task bar.

Procedure -

  • Format card
  • Follow instruction on Skoda portal and download and unzip files.
  • Copy unzipped files only (no folder) unto SD card
  • Run CleanMyDrive - it will show that you have junk files. Hit the 'Clean junk' button, safely eject your SD card and you are good to upload into car.

Works every time for me.
