Carry a bike on a Fabia VRS?

Featured Replies

Can anyone suggest the best way to carry a bike on a Fabia VRS. I believe the options are on a roof rack, inside or on a rack on the back of the car. I don’t want ot put the bike inside since it won’t take long to get the back seat fabric dirty, I’m not sure a rack on the back is possible without a tow bar so I’m left with a roof rack?

What’s the best way? Links to any products?

Thanks

EDIT: Something like this maybe? http://www.car-roofracks.co.uk/thule-clipon-high-bike-rack.htm

i have skoda roof rack and thule cycle racks buy one get one free from halfrauds that were about 40 odd quid i think, roof rack is a

I've used one of them rear racks on my old pug 206, they work fairly well but they do mark the paint work.

I also found the straps can work lose so it's worth checking them.

The roof spolier may prevent a rack fitting on the back

It can be done by a high level back rack, clears the plate and lights.

The spoiler isn't affected as the straps go higher than the spoiler.

Mind mine is just a cheapy from Tescos, six straps and it works.

Genuine Skoda roof bars and a Halfords bike carrier.

Oh, and a Thule snowboard holder!

Another one with Skoda roof bars & Thule bike carriers!

just dont forget that you have a bike on the roof.........when going under low trees {like i have done }

Having worked in a cycle shop for many years. A roof rack is the best bet and I currently have thule roof bars and thule cycle carriers, I believe that the skoda ones may be made by thule.

I wouldnt go back to a rear mounted cycle carrier, seen some bikes in a mess!!

Hope this helps

Got mine - at a squeeze - in the boot - seat need cleaning now.

Tempted to get some temp seat covers - but we'll see

I use 2 Thule 591 ProRide's as above and the Thule bars and brackets. Bought it all together from:

Service was very good. Ordered by phone at 10am arrived at 9am next day.

They also supplied the same locks so one key fits all which is nice.

Had a Paddy Hopkirk high-level boot rack, but that collapsed going round a roundabout  Fortunately car and bikes virtually undamaged due to low speeds involved. Seemed to have been caused by straps going all fuzzy where they passed through the tightener clip thingies, and not staying put. :thumbdwn:

Bike stays inside car nowadays. If I'm using the boot, the wheels come off and go on the back seat, and the bike frame sits upright in the footwell behind the front seats. I hasten to add at this point that I put an old blanket over the back seats, and another over the back of the front seats (tied onto the head restraint pillars) to protect the upholstery.

After the rack collapsing on me, seeing on Top Gear how much putting a bike outside your car ruins your fuel economy, and seeing how much bikes and bike racks wobble about on the motorway, I don't think I'll ever transport my bike outside the car ever again...

I always go steady when I have the bike(s) on the rack anyway. To be honest I'm getting better fuel economy (not by much though).

If they are fastened in securely enough, they shouldn't wobble around excessively. The Thule carrier I have, locks onto the down tube & straps the front & rear wheel to the channel. It ain't gonna go anywhere!;)

With 2 bikes on the roof i only lost about 10% mpg which i didn't think was too bad

Still went alright and didn't have a problem with wobble. Certainly wasn't a problem at motorway cruising speeds - didn't give it lots of beans round the corners though just in case..

Having always put my bikes in the back of my old 306 i'm impressed with the ease of putting them on the roof

Plus the interior of the vRS is a bit too clean and light for muddy bikes no matter how many blankets, sheets etc..
