How much extra noise with the window rain deflector thigies?

Featured Replies

When my Skodiaq arrives, I'm considering adding in the rain deflectors as I won't have a sunroof.

Does anyone have them and can comment on how much extra wind noise they add, aside from them looking a bit naff (but my car will be moon white so it should sort of hide it).

Thank you.

I have install rain deflectors, extra noise not mach for me.

@Sam168  they look great, almost invisible.

What are these for? Allowing you to drive in the rain with your windows partially open?

With modern cars and air conditioning, is it really necessary anymore?

I wondered that!  I can’t remember driving a roofed car with the windows open for many year.  Too much noise and disturbance, worse consumption than with the aircon on.  However, it may be different for other climates?

Ah, fair point, the OP is in Australia, I guess there are more opportunities for window-down driving when it's close to 50 degree's Celsius!

I know a few people use them on their camper vans, with several breathing bodies inside overnight, and the engine turned off things can get a little humid inside, the wind / rain deflectors stop the rain getting in when the windows are opened slightly during the night.

As a Kiwi who get hot summers (not quite Aussie hot though!), I don't see the point of it, apart from venting the car while parked as you said. Definitely not worth opening the windows down while driving when it's hot - the drag with windows open counteracts any fuel savings of not driving the AC compressor. The ventilated seats do come handy for hot days...

I'm a motorcyclist (and therefore strange) so I like having windows open.  In my 3T Superb, I had the pano-roof which was great but no one could ever get it to stop rattling and creaking, despite changing everything up to and including the whole frame at one point.

So I avoided the pano roof for the Skodiaq.  I think I'd still like to crack the windows sometimes, hence the wind deflectors.  The problem is that they traditionally look like something that Dad would put on the car, however the picture from Sam168 above they actually look good so I think I'll go for it.
