Changing tinted windows

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm after some advice off the superb experts please. Just bought a 2016 2.0L se l executive for a taxi. Need to change the passenger side windows to clear one's. I have a 2012 superb 2.0L elegance. Might be a daft question as different shape. But would those windows fit the 2016.

Thanks in advance

No, totally different

Are the windows factory tinted glass, or aftermarket tints?  If the later the film can just be removed.

SEL Exec are factory tint... going to need to speak to a local glass supplier or find an SE or below (not sure if the tech is tinted) at a breaker

Yeah factory fitted.. cheers guys. Like Goblin says I'll look for a local glass supplier.

Or find someone with an SE or lower that wants to swop.

Good idea - I’m sure there are many SE drivers who would be delighted to get free privacy glass. Win-Win for all!

Just for anyone who's interested. Only main dealers supply these. And as expected. They are extortionate.

Main dealers do not produce glass, neither does Skoda / VW.

It comes in from Manufacturers suppliers and Car repairers do not have to purchase from a main dealerships 'parts desk', that had it delivered to them.

Surely there has to be a breaker who would be delighted to swap tinted for untinted...

The problem is, they come with the chrome edging. Maybe it's damaged when removing. But no glass supplier seems to do them. Only main dealers.

£262 a piece.

I would expect the glass unit to be available on its own,  that is what autoglass would bring if you had one broken.

I have no chrome strips on mine (SEL Exec) unless they are invisible inside the door.

£139 each off eBay...
