Brakes for Vrs

Featured Replies

Hi There, The Check brake wear light came on, on my 15 plate VRS the other day and I have been quoted over £400 by the local Seat/Skoda dealership, this feels like alot to me, as its a lease im told that work needs to be done by a VW group garage.

Does anyone else have experience of getting the brakes replaced and what is a usual charge for this?

Thanks

?

What does it need just brake pads at the front.

That is not £400, or are they saying Pads and Discs.  Still not £400.

Does not need brake pads fitted at a VW Group Main Dealership. Even in the T&C's says needs Serviced at a VW Group Main Dealership. Authorised Repairer.

Read your own Lease T&C's rather than someone tell you what they say.

??

Were you offered to book in for a Free Brake Check?

What exactly does the Technicians Report say about the brakes from a Free Brake Check.

Taking the Mick and ripping off customers is not 'Simply Clever'.

Take it to an independent, they'll normally use VW parts but not charge dealer prices.

Look on the web for recommended local independent VW/Audi workshops and see if you can find reviews detailing their workmanship and pricing.

I got quoted a similar price from Kwik Fit to fit OEM Skoda pads, I'm sure it was something around £300.

At an independent garage I got quoted £177 for aftermarket (Pagid) pads with fitting.

In the end, I bought Pagid pads myself from Euro Car Parts for £36 and got them fitted at a garage for £60.

Do it yourself and don't tell no one nuffink :notme:

Gaz

If the warning is just worn pads then fit them yourself (or find a mate and pay in beer).  Pads are pads.  They only go in one way.

If I tried to do it it would be the wrong way.

Never owned a car long enough (more than 4 years or 33,000 miles) to warrant even changing pads let alone discs.:notme:

Just realised, I mc fudged up here. Have to fix....

£300+ quote from Kwik Fit was for OEM front discs and pads.

£177 quote from independent garage was for aftermarket front discs and pads.

The £96 I ended up paying was for front pads only and fitting, simply because I realised my discs didn't need changing.

  • 1 month later...

I tried to book in at Trust Skoda for my front disks and pads to be replaced yesterday. It's on their online booking system (put the reg in etc) at £239.

Got a phone call after saying that isnt the right price and the correct price is £545.61 as mine is a vRS. Would I like to go ahead? Hmm. No.

Ordered the parts online and will do it myself now.

This..

Surely if the car has new OEM pads fitted.. doesn't matter by who how does that break the lease T&Cs? Thats what I'd do.

I doubt I'll need to get mine done before I give the car back since I'm on 8k per year for 2 years. lol

If I'm leasing I want a new car every 2 or 3 years max before the bigger consumables need servicing or the warranty runs out for other stuff.

seriously i doubt it would as the dealer monopoly was broken along time ago

They'll be telling the uninitiated you have to have a skoda dealer replace tyres too at their prices next :)

Before I start taking my car apart to replace the brakes, are there any particular unusual tools I need etc? I haven't noticed a guide on here for it, let me know if there is one!

I was quoted £395 +VAT for front brake discs and pads, and £95 +VAT for rear pads only by VRS Northampton for my 2013 VRS.

Ended up buying front discs and pads, rear pads and oil filter from EuroCarParts (with a 50% off voucher code) for £165 inc VAT, so will just carry the work out myself.

I'm guessing the only specific tool that might be needed will be one to help push/screw the caliper piston's back into the calipers prior to fitting the new pads.

This is only the rear 'Shirley'?  Had a look at the tools not long ago and they aren't expensive (circa £30) so far cheaper still than paying 'the man'.

Don't know in all honesty as I haven't got round to changing the pads myself yet.
