felicia MPG?

Featured Replies

Holla Briskodians,

I've worked out my felicia has only been doing 40 MPG. Given that it's a Diesel, I thought it would be better than that. Even though I like to drive "un-economically"

It's got a anoying little fuel leak coming from somewhere round the pump, but I havn't been able to locate the source (diesel being a clear liquid, kinda hard to see)

So, is 40 MPG actually about right or do I sort the leak out? and does anyone have a tip on how to find the leak or ideas how to sort it?

Diesel fuel economy depends a lot on journey length, If your journeys are under 5 miles then you will never get huge mpg. The diesels really need a good long time to warm up to get their maximum MPG. IF you are doing over 20 miles to a journey you should be seeing better figures than that. A fuel leak wont be helping things at all.

I had a TDCI mondeo that because I was doing under 5 miles journeys to work and back I was getting around 35mpg out of :(

Don't think it's that. I live in the middle of nowhere so the nearest shop is about 5 miles away. I rarely travel as little as that - today I've done 80miles. In 4 journeys, the smallest of which was 12miles.

I just thinking that I can't remember replacing the air filter when I serviced it last, but that shouldn't be causing such a ecconomy loss. I'll check it tomorrow.

I've just done a quick calculation based on my last tankful and I got just under 41 mpg out of it. I do a lot of shorter journeys as well as occasional long ones so not the best mix. I've noticed a distinct fall off in the distance I get from a tank over the winter, maybe over 10% less but I'm not sure.

The car has roughly 70,000 on the clock and is serviced annually with an oil change between. It's decidedly rougher when the weather is cold or very wet with a noticeable hesitancy at lower revs and light throttle.

Thanks red studio.

41 mpg eh?

I think that as my felly has just past the 140,000 mark and wasn't well looked after by the previous owner it's absolutly fine and I'm just panicing about this fuel leak.

I've only had it from this Jan so havn't driven in warm weather, but my old fiesta diesel had a similar performance/economy drop in the cold.

Stop worrying Boswall. Its absolutely fine.

i got 1000kms local silly trips 10-15kms

and 800kms autoroute a tank

thats not pushing it past 150kph

no idea mpg sorry :( but very very good

I struggled to get my Felicia to better 48 mpg, so with Briskoda-style ritual abuse your figure sounds about right.
