The "same but different" project

Featured Replies

ok... so, having been the proud owner of a 2013 MK3 vRS TDI for 2.5 years, I decided this week to swap it out for a same, but different car.

I said goodbye to my white vRS for the following reasons;

  • It was white
  • Bodywork was in need of attention
  • It was a manual with clunky 1st into 2nd experience
  • It was white (repeated for effect)

The sales person loved my white vRS and offered me top money, which was nice.

I drove away with;

My new "same but different" has the following going for it;

  • It's a TDI DSG
  • 2 years newer (2015)
  • Updated Maxidot + audio system
  • Better colour (not white)
  • Identical spec, all except a heated windscreen - but I'm ok with this

So I'll be playing around with this car a lot more, and already have many, many orders awaiting delivery.

First observations;

  • The wheels have been refurbed poorly - and will be replaced soon
  • The DSG gearbox takes some getting used to, but I prefer it (it's the 6 speed one)
  • I think the stop/start feature on a DSG is a complete waste of technology and I find myself disabling it every time I start the car
  • There is a weird clicky noise coming from directly behind the steering wheel as I turn it from left to right (or vice-versa) - which I need to investigate - has anyone else got this?
  • It hasn't got SatNav - but I don't mind this.

I'll get some more pics up as things progress :) - any advice on the above would be great.  Welcome any thoughts.

Thnks, J

I'd be very surprised if there is no SatNav.

You mention "Updated Audio System" - I'm assuming something non-Skoda?

Hi Stoofa,

It's a Skoda system, with a slightly larger display, but definitely no SatNav.  Where I once had the SatNav + Traffic button's, I now only have SETUP + SOUND.

I utilise a TomTom XL system anyway, which I prefer so it's all good.  The clock screensaver is new too, I didn't have this feature on my earlier MK3.

Looks like the bolero system.  Standard in that era vrs if i'm not mistaken.  If you wanted the nav I'll have an amundsen system going cheap some time soon.  I like the black surround around the g'stick.  Far nicer than the silvery one on my elegance.

I think most of the range have this, but to different degrees.

My initial thinking is it's a not-very-refined indicator engagement/disengagement switch which makes a noise (and 'feeling' for the Princess & Pea types among us - including me ;) ) - not sure if there is a known fix for this though.

On the 'white' aspect - the non-'230' (2016) VRS specs was a boring flat white colour. I can confirm that the 'Moon White' is wicked, and should have been the stock colour used in general for all VRS models. That is to say it's awesome when it remains clean.

Which in current weather is literally about 25 minutes...

I had a Rallye Green Vrs Tdi DSG registered in January 2015 (64 plate) and it didn't come with factory Sat Nav also. Believe they started fitting it around April 2015 as standard. Mine was a hatch and not the estate (wife thinks all estates resemble a hearse).:giggle:
