Anyone know CF13UJK? (2013 VRS estate)

Don't know anything about the car's history, however spec wise it has literally zero options. As this is one of the very first MK3 VRS it doesn't have cruise control, or sat Nav as both were options.

 

If this doesn't bother you then great, but it's missing things that I would call essential on a car like this. Condition from the images looks pretty good for what is approaching a 6 year old example.

Thanks. No, options don't really bother me. Hardly ever use cruise, and I always just use Google Maps now anyway. 

Were those wheels ever standard on the Mk3 ?

 

Seems expensive for the absolutely lowest spec. & oldest Mk3 vRS available although, it does have low mileage

I bought a 63 VRS that also doesn't have sat nav,cruise or standard alloys. You also wont get parking sensors on the wings, heated seats or a flat bottom steering wheels, which are things I've seen as standard on a 15.

 

Alloys aren't one I've seen on a Vrs before either. Was at 60k miles, and a hatchback, and it cost me £9,800 over a year ago.

The wheels are the standard Pictoris alloys, very nice IMO. Like everyone else though the spec would put me right off but if you are OK with it, it looks tidy enough, if a little expensive.

If you want a manual petrol estate with low mileage and are happy with the spec, then give the dealer a call to talk about history, service record, wheel condition etc.  Condition is more important than age. IMHO. The Bolero system is OK, it's got Bluetooth and the car's got rear parking sensors. And it's got a proper (skinny) spare wheel, that's worth a hundred quid. TBH, what more do you need, really? OK, it hasn't got heated seats, but, well.

 

if it checks out on Parker's for the valuation (pay for the premium service) then why not go for it? The MOT history on gov.uk checks out, no fails and mileage is accurate. Dealer seems to be well regarded.

 

 I've got the Pictorus wheels on my black pearl hatch and I like them.  Except where I've kerbed them, but that's my fault.  Cardiff's a pleasant place to spend a few hours. It's a 7 hour round trip for me up here near Chester.

Looks good, low mileage.  Definitely not £3k over.  

I 'd tend to go with the Blue car for the following reasons:  Now this is assuming the cars are clean, 1 owner, with a full service history.

 

1: WeBuyAnyCar will purchase that Blue car for £9200 - so that's roughly what it's worth / what the garage paid for it. (other brokers may offer slightly more - others slightly less).

Add the dealers markup for warranty and overheads and £12000 would suggest it's priced a tad on the high side. Knock off a few hundred quid and I think it'd be a reasonable deal. It's also being sold via a Skoda dealer which adds brownie points. The MOT is due 25th July so I'd insist they include that into the deal (and they pay for any work if the car happens to fail).

 

2: Green car - I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole and whoever suggests the price is not too over the top really hasn't done their home work.

WeBuyAnycar will offer £10500 for that car which means that's roughly what the dealer would / should have paid for it.  The dealer is advertising it for £6000 more  !!!!   Jeez

Not only that but it's being advertised on an auction site. So let's take a look at their website - it's pretty non-existant - looks like a scanned A4 sheet of paper, very unprofessional.

It also lists the number of previous owners as nil.  eh?

But my biggest question is over tax.   If you look at the Government VED website, you'll see the car is currently taxed until 1st Dec 2019.  Well if it's been sold to the garage it shouldn't be taxed at all.  And if they're using it to run around in, that suggests they'd have to register it - i.e. that's another owner. 

TBH I think their operation sounds Arthur Daley'ish. I reckon the car is overpriced by at least £3500, but even if it were being offered for £12500, I'd still give their garage the cold shoulder.

Thanks Scot, appreciate the detailed reply. Some very good points made. Lots of food for thought. (I wish I wasn't so damn indecisive - but I keep cars for a number of years so want to get it right!). 

If you are keeping for many years, the list price of the car isn't really the most important thing. People are obsessed with 'getting a deal' but the reality may well be that spending a little more money on a car, maybe the list price is higher, maybe the dealer doesn't adhere to the working practices of a Skoda dealer (this swings both ways!) but in reality it's the car that you'll be driving for many years that is more important than the deal itself. I collected my car from a wholesaler and it came with some faults, some of which I knew about, some I discovered and these guys were what you might call shrewd negotiators; They wanted £12k, I wanted to pay £11k in light of a few things so we shook right in the middle at £11k. The car has been near faultless since. I still think the blue car is a low spec and that over the years would bother me more and more, but if you are OK with that then go for it. If you ever want heated seats, cruise control etc down the line then they can be installed.

Cruise is actually quite easy to retrofit providing the right systems are in place which they probably are on a car like that.  Why not give the dealer a call and see what they can do on the price considering the low spec and age.  Dont mention the low mileage as that is on their side.  They can then answer any q's on the condition and what work has been carried out.  Might be trivial for some but a good indicator for me whether a car has been looked after is if it has the same tyres all round.

From what I can see, it's a good deal. For them to be retailing it being a 2013 model (on their forecourt), it's got to be worth their while. 

 

I've had a look on AutoTrader and Motors and its probably one of the cheapest for the age and mileage. 

 

Do they have any benefits for buying a used car from them? See what you can get else from them but I don't think the car is over priced at all - especially not by £3,000 lol!

I got the quote from WeWantAnyCar - first time I've used them in years. But I see they've employed new tactics...  just received an email saying:

 

"The price of your Octavia has dropped since your enquiry, but because we guaranteed it for 7 days that price still applies"

 

Ha ha ha...   Doesn't matter whether you speak to them in person or one of their computers, Arthur Daley will never die.

Correction - you've looked at the asking prices.  The value of a car is often very different from the asking price. Go see how much the car is worth at trade (i.e. the price they'd have bought it at) then add in profit margin, overheads etc.   Giving someone £16000 for a car that's worth £10500...   each to their own but that's overpriced in my book.

 

There's another thread on here where someone's 3yr lease is up in 6mths time. They can hand the car back or pay £10,000 to take ownership. (the lease company are valuing a 16,000 example for £10k  - that's how much these things are worth.) The problem is the guy would have to take out a loan to buy the car from the lease company.

 

If the two of you get together, you both might profit out of this :handshake:
