Climate, engine fan mayhem. Scout 2009

Featured Replies

Hi all I'm in need of some help. Whilst checking fuses and trying to work out if I have zenons or not so I can get dipped beam sorted as currently too low I've buggered something up.

When I started the engine the cooling fans came on, that's not happened before but I also noticed that the climate control had no power too it and no way to turn it on. These things can't be unrelated so any pointers will be hugely appreciated.

I've parked the dip beam problem until I'm back to square one.

Thanks in advance.

easy fix in the end. it needed walking away from, tea and a relook to discover that like a moron you put a fuse into the holder for the automatic box (#14) you don't have and not in the climate control (#16) which you do have and were too busy through your toys out the pram to comprehend properly.

We'll keep this between ourselves, no one needs to know...

to check for HIDs wouldn't you just look for the washer covers on the bumper or the height sensors on the suspension?  Or pull the headlight housing and look for the box on the back of the bulb?

Cheers for the reply Brad,  yes found the washer covers and the washers but I also have the level adjuster next to the brightness dial. My searching on here lead me to believe that it was unlikely they're xenons.

However you've got my interest with the heidgt sensor on the suspension comment. Where would I find this please?

Some cars with halogen headlights get headlight washers, for instance my MK2 FL Elegance :)

@DanT4 - if you have a headlight level/range adjustment dial and it moves the headlights, you haven't got factory xenons.

As for the level sensors, they should be on the passenger side front and rear suspension. I added some pictures when I retrofitted factory xenons on my Octavia in this thread: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/391916-fl-xenon-retrofit/

If your headlights take a while to get to full brightness, someone may have fitted aftermarket xenons. The headlight on a MK2 Octavia is one of the easiest to remove so you should be able to check if an non-road legal kit has been fitted pretty quickly.

Awesome info thanks. I'll pop them out at some point today and take a look. A the moment I'm not fussed what they are I just want safe lighting.

Couple of useful videos if you haven't done it before.

Again, awesome thanks. Mine is the love child of a pre FL and FL one night stand 2009 model. So top video applies and I'll take a look at it before having a go :)

Took a while but I pulled the lights out and grovelled around on the floor under it to check if there were any sensors. Quite happy there weren't to be honest so I could get on and twiddle the dip beam adjusters a wee bit. It'll get done properly at the garage at some point but at least they moved in the right direction.
