The genuine nuts don't look particularly like locking nuts, especially after years on a car. If you zoom in on the picture in the first result of the ebay link I posted you can just about see the ovality at the end of the nut.

Spring washers and nylocs don't really work very well at preventing loss of preload, they'll just stop the nut falling off completely after preload has been lost. If new nut and bolt are correctly preloaded with torque then angle, that situation won't occur.

I believe the nuts are serrated flange type. The serrations grip and stop them coming undone. You can always use loctite if you want belt and braces.

Never seen Nylock nuts or spring washers used on cars. Probably not suitable in this application.

I did notice one firm selling the old easy bleed bleed nipples. The ones I fitted on an old maxi( shows how long ago it was ) had a spring to hold the nipple valve closed when the nipple was slackened off, but which allowed fluid and air out when brakes were operated. it then shut off the system when pressure was removed. Of course this was in the days when nothing was thought of spilling fluid on the ground.

Wow, I've seen loads on different parts. I've had some strut top mount nuts that were Nyloc and seen them on loads of other things. Also seen spring washers used in lots of places.

Random example - spring washer used on Skoda Felicia...

Should have perhaps said not seen any OE on any of my cars, which includes VW passat, Seat Alhambra, Skoda Fabia, Octavia but prepared to be proven wrong.
