Octavia 230 gearbox

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the gearbox in the 230 works in tandem with the trick suspension or are they independent of each other?

DCC and DSG are completely independent.

The standard modes of the car will effectively pair up certain settings but they can be altered individually too.

For example - selecting the sport mode, would put both the DCC and DSG into Sport mode but via the individual setting (and/or other controls) you can also have the DCC in comfort with the DSG in sport, or the DCC in Sport with DSG in Eco etc. etc.

Right  so I presume that's the same for the manual as well. Just with it having a electronic diff i thought it might be working with each other. So there's should be no reason why I couldn't fit a sqv box to my car then? Btw I've got a petrol manual vrs

Wrong wording

With the manual gearbox, there is no interaction or connection at all as the behaviour of the gearbox can't be controlled by the drive modes in the car.

The VAQ diff is again an independent system, that has several settings that will be part of the pre-configured drive modes but also individually selectable.

Not sure what an SQV box is - Google is showing me HKS blow off valves but not sure that's what you mean as that's related to the turbo, not the suspension or gearbox or diff.

It's the gearbox code

Manual gearbox is fully controlled by you, manually, by your hand (and foot for the clutch). It has no input connection from the car systems to its operation, only feedback connections. Actually, that's the beauty of it, IMHO. I drive manual, by choice.

Changing modes, whatsoever, changes chassis behavior, VAQ, engine map, engine sound, throttle response, stiffness of the steering wheel, which provides you a feeling of a very different car. It will affect the way you handle the gearbox stick, at the end. :) At some point changing of modes affects the gearbox, but your eyes, ears, brains and your hand are the bridge.

I was looking at the cost of fitting a lsd which came in at 2k but the SQV box (out of the 230 & leon cupra) has the trick diff already in and half the price, but I wasn't sure with it being labelled electric if it would work without the fancy shocks.

Yes it (the VAQ diff) works fine my MY19 245 vRS - it has the tricky diff and standard perfectly acceptable on 18s non DCC suspension ;)

 just what I wanted to hear thanks. I want to up the power substantially, but i want to be able to use it without 1 wheel of fire taking over:giggle:

Am I reading this right that a 230 box can slot in to a 220 and work no bother?

Or have I been wishing to hear that news for so long I'm making it up in my own head? :D
