Factory privacy glass - bit light?!

Featured Replies

My new Vrs estate allegedly has privacy glass but it is miles off what i would consider to be privacy, more sunset! Anyone know the percentage of it? I have now booked in to have it darkened.

Also, brochure said 2019 VRS had puddle lights? Well mine doesn't, i feel cheated!!!!

My 2019 VRS has puddle lights. They are on the underside of the wing mirrors.

Yes it is on the lighter side. I was parked behind an identical race blue VRS on Monday; think my tints are 20% and the other VRS had factory privacy glass. Mine was noticeably darker.

I specced the electric folding mirrors on my MY19 but they should be there as standard unless there has been a spec change?

They dropped the electric mirrors so i had to spec them, they were standard on my old VRS as were the lights but there was no mention of the puddle lights being extra when I chose the mirrors. Its a sad state of affairs if thats true. My mates basic golf has them in LED form, even when my old one had filament bulbs.

I was under impression i would get them but deffo no light source hiding there. Bit gutted with the privacy glass too. My kuga privacy was perfect at 15% but skoda one is really naff, hence getting them re- done !!

Sorry to hear that, Ive not had any kind of tints before so Im a bit new to it. Im happy with the level of tint I have as standard, I have to roll the window down for security at work to see theres noone hiding in there on the way through the gate lol

I was a bit disappointed with the privacy glass on my octavia too. Had a focus previously and an s40 before that and the tint was much better.

I'm pretty sure Skoda call it sunset glass....they definitely did when it was included in the black pack on my mk3 pre fl. Although it's not that dark, its built into the glass so much better than aftermarket tint IMO. I've added some fitted blinds which give the much darker feel. They are great for the kids as they fix to the interior trim so are in situ even with the windows down.

Yes the factory sunset glass is a touch light in comparison to my wife's old Zafira VXR and my Renault Megan's GT Line company car.

As is pointed out, you're quite correct, it's lighter because it isn't supposed to be any darker.

It's sunset glass and you're talking about privacy glass.

If you want that "van like" appearance, go get yourself some "lovely" film on the B-pillar back.

Is it really called sunset??

In the options list I ticked privacy glass not sunset glass. Take your inverted commas and condescending attitude elsewhere.

Hey - you want that "van look" then go for it - the inverted commas very much required.

Actually Stoofa has a valid point in that there are legal requirements for tinted glass and the opacity of any tinting that may be applied to it. And as Stoofa has added if you want to make your car look like a Chavmobile or van that's entirely your perogative.

Just don't say that you weren't advised or warned about it.  Penalty is £60 + 3pts on your driving licence.

Also don't be fooled by photos on a website photos can be very deceptive and as they say colours will be different in reality than on a screen.

Stoofa never mentioned chavmobile but thanks for your invaluable input.

No he didn't, but he was dropping you a subtle hint.

A subtle hint about his own preferred taste. Was it required or asked for in any way?

I ticked the box for privacy glass and got what seems to be sunset. So the tint does look light.

Should I have a look at your cars and pick fault...

The brochure lists it as privacy glass and not sunset, hence my disappointment.

I doubt very much with the correct application it will look chavvy and i never even mentioned tinting forward of the B pillar, to which the rules exist. You clearly do not know construction and use regulations either as what you have quoted is factually incorrect !

If you want to drive 600 odd miles fine, I don't care too much. I know (retrospectively) that I don't like some of the extras that I chose, but what's done is done, I can't do anything about it, I will have to live with it for the next few years.

I've had my moans about it on here and now I've moved on as I know that it'll achieve nothing, my fault end of...

If you don't like the glass you have in the car, then change it (add tint and its dubious legality is down to you) as it's your money and your responsibility, if you don't like it, change the car. The choice is yours.

You have been given advice on what you can do about it, whether you want to take it on board or not is now down to you.

@TheWanderer  What is this dubious legality you speak of with the glass behind the front doors?

Is it some Internet Myth?

Plenty from the Factory vehicles, cars or MPV's have 'Privacy Glass' or Blacked out Security Glass behind the B Pillars.

PS

Including, Police, DVLA, HMRC, Government Minister / Prime Minister transport, cars / estates not commercial vans..
