Not that I know of unless you have deep pockets and buy a standalone professional garage system similar to what you find in the main dealers.

I have a genuine copy of VCDS so I do not use Carista or OBDEleven for coding although I do have Carista on my Phone. Hopefully somebody with experience of both will be able to help or you could look at their websites for details of their functionality and pricing.

Just remember NOT to buy a hooky/scammed off version of VCDS like the one you posted the link to, if you ever see VAG-COM 409 or 410 being mentioned, it is old stuff and maybe will not cover your age of car - and is hooky/scammed off stuff with no user support.

Also be aware that that original carsoft stand alone bit of kit is being sold off cheaply now as it does not cover newer cars, that is pointed out in that ebay listing so no funny business going on there, if you keep this car for ever then that is not an issue, but no doubt you will change your car in the near future and might end up moving beyond the capabilities of that carsoft device.

Just to make it clear, OBDeleven is still currently, I think, only compatible with Android, Carista is compatible with both Apple and Android.

Those are the hardware required but you will still need to download the app from the Play Store, if on Android, and then pay to use it.

thank you, i will keep looking around.

For that kind of money you can buy the latest HEX-V2 rather than the outdated HEX+CAN

Alternatively why not look on the VCDS owners map for someone local who already has it.

hi gizmo

thank you for your imput, i really wouldnt mind owning one of these rather than borrowing one.

to be honest i dont really want to spend that much money as i know i probably wont use it to its full potential. i only want to enable a few features on my car.

the problem is i dont know which vag-com i should get, maybe the charita one will do, what do you think?

just want to kno if this will be my cheapest option to program/code my car?

I can't give you an accurate answer as I like some others have bought a licensed version of VCDS for use at home and Carista for use when out and about.

Remember the first cost for OBDeleven is to buy the app to use on an Android device and for the dongle, there is further down the line costs for using it to perform certain tasks, so you would need to check up on that and which "one click" options that are available for your specific car.

Hopefully someone that has already bought OBDeleven and used it to enable/change options on this version of Fabia will post to this thread.

The trouble is, for a diagnostic tool to cover all VW Group smart modules and to be able to recode them, you are always looking at some pretty decent kit, so the cost will always reflect this.

Alternatively you can use the VCDS map to locate a member that is willing to make these changes to your car for beer money - if you are willing to work with them.

Edit:- just be aware that if you end up needing to get someone with the latest version of VCDS, then helping you out will cost them "one VIN" of their allowance, and that might not be how some people use up their allowance of "VINs".

thank you for the advice.

got a friend at work who has the carista, i asked him if i can borrow it for the weekend and he said yeah sure.

havent really got anything to lose have i?

You'd need to bother the device that the Carista app has been downloaded onto for that to work, most people I'd think will have it only on their personal mobile phone!

you saying i wont be able to use it if i borrow my wifes tablet?

No, not unless you pay for and download the Carista app, all you are borrowing is a dumb dongle that works with Carista and some other related apps.  The dongle is the cheapest part of this.
