Bad smell coming through the vents

Featured Replies

Hi,

For the past few few weeks now when I start my car up there is a really bad smell comes through the vents but only for a minute or so. It smells like mould or something along them lines.

Could it be down to bacteria build up. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Most probably the pollen filter needs changing.

@Stephenmc - Yes. do the below in the order listed, because doing (2) without doing (1) is a waste of money and (1) might cure the problem:-

  1.  I'd start by checking the ventilation plenum chamber drains (under the plastic surround for the wiper pivots) and changing the pollen filter.
  2. If that doesn't work, then try a ventilation system cleaning "bomb".

Thanks for the reply !!!

I’ll give that a go. Hopefully it’s works.

Do you use your a/c all year round?

When I bought it the a/c must of needed re gased because cold air dosent come through, I would never really use a/c anyway

So there is the issue, A/C is not just for use in summer or when hot.

Not just a new Pollen / Cabin Filter needed, vacuum out the system, wash the area of the filter and maybe be sure to get the system fresh and without bacteria with a

Air Con Refresher / Sanitizer. (dont ask for a A/C bomb or Odor Bomb.)

If the refresher is an aerosol can then I have to ask for une bombe here in France!!

Lots of places you need to take care with the words used, and in Northern Ireland in particular it is like at Ports and Airports. Think before saying things.
