Skoda Octavia 2 locking wheel nut - help!

Featured Replies

I bought an Octavia second hand in November and stupidly didn't check that the locking wheel nut key was until now when I need to replace a tyre with a slow puncture... FML.

Can anyone confirm if this is a standard OEM looking locking wheel nut which a dealer should be able to locate a replacement for, or whether it's one which has been retro fitted (if that's the right word!?) later...?

Thanks for your help!

It's an OEM bolt but there's quite a few of them! The dealer should have a master set to see which one you need.

Great - thanks for that! Will get down the dealer on Monday then...

@StickyMicky - thanks! I had seen that in a previous post but couldn't see my bumpy flower shaped nut in the chart hence my post. I may be being massively thick though - can you see which one it is? Thanks in advance!

Dont thank me yet... cause the one i posted isnt it either :D

if you look really close the "outer" edge of the "flower" on yours follows the exact same geometric lines as the inner face just a slight radius change. The one i linked has a slightly different outer edge geometry :notme:

Found some that _look_ like yours and are (as Mac11irl pointed out) 5-pointers advertised on fleabay for a Superb.  They appear to be the same size but perhaps a quick message to the seller if you need a fix quicker than Alibaba can provide.

I also noticed BTW that Amazon have quite a selection but I haven't searched through them as yet.

They are very close, but also, outer geometry pattern is different...

I better check the boot if my "new" mk2 on thursday before i leave after collection!!

@Ironjimon i cant see car detail on your profile on mobile theme.

What age and spec mk2 have you?

Is the closest ive seen.. but even it doeant look "rounded" enough.

Is there any where in the service book sticker i wonder that might have the code for lock nut applied, as 3 digit number?

8** perhaps (seems to be the numbering system from audi...)

Or... maybe a previous owner bought their own replacement ebay specials..

locking wheel nut key

Look here for info:- http://www.mcgard.com/

If/when you get them off, think about if you just refit with 4 normal wheel bolts only.

You might also want 4 normal wheel bolt covers. You then have nothing to break/lose.

Thanks AG Falco

Do you know where the standard (if indeed it is so) locking wheel nut key would be stored on the Octavia or what other places the previous owner or a tyre fitter might have left it and checked them all?

Standard location (for a standard size key) is in the foam wheel well liner, I cant post a photo but maybe someone else can.

Then there are the obvious storage areas where I have found mine after leaving it out and visible for tyre fitters, the glovebox, the central armrest box.

Then there are the myriad other storage places where an owner may have decided to hide it or just put it there to stop it rattling around then forgot to put it back in its correct location, the under passenger seat cubby hole, many dont know it is there and it surprised me, the small locker in the drivers side facia under the steering wheel on the door side. The little pockets at the side of the seats, the front or rear ashtray areas (I remove the ashtrays and use them for store cards, keys etc) the open areas either side of a raised boot floor.

It could be in many places or more likely sitting on top of the tyre fitting machine at a tyre depot together with dozens of others :D thats always a good place to find a replacement like asking for a petrol filler cap at a petrol station!

Thanks to all for the help on this; after a trip to the dealer and £38 later (ouch!) we have got a locking wheel nut key... I agree with the suggestions of replacing the locking wheel nuts with 'normal' wheel nuts - may flog the locking wheel nut key and 4 locking wheel nuts on eBay to try and recoup some of my outlay on the key, too!

Thanks again

They deserve the title "Main stealers"

You had to ask.............He'll be beating himself up when he sees them on Fleabay probably about a fiver. :crying:
