Fabia MK2 Boot/Hatch/Tailgate Springs for Automatic Opening

Featured Replies

Recently came across the videos below and would love to do this mod to my car!
I'm having trouble finding the parts though.
Does anyone know what I can search to find them or anywhere I could purchase them?
Being in Australia does make finding parts for the Skoda a little harder but even online I haven't had much luck finding any available for purchase.
The best I've been able to find from the comments is 'Federelement SZ 8010.20 x 032 32 automatisch Heckklappe BMW und andere' not sure if there's a specific part number or band or just key words I should be searching.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Still can't believe I can't find these springs anywhere for sale besides the one German eBay listing.

They are just engineering springs that people have tried, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. With time, the (Reasonably) correct length and power of spring was determined and sellers advertise them as boot raisers. Some even added a little boot/cover but they are just springs, they are not made solely for this purpose. I had intended to do this, never did. I would most likely find a nice little gaiter to finish the detail, if I did, though.

Is it purely the expense that is the issue? I think they were around £5 a pair in the UK, cheaper if you used a hardware outlet and not a guy selling boot lifters.

Be aware, too weak a spring won't lift, too strong will smack you in the face and/or smash in to a parked car if too close or hit an overhead ceiling if parked in a low roofed area, etc.  Tooling and the boot won't close, hence fairly specific sized springs needed.

Engineering/hardware places should be able to help if you know the springs size/weighting.

Edit:... I have discovered a seller here in the UK but don't know if they ship to Australia. I could most likely send you a set as they offer a discount on two sent together so I could buy two, post one on. I am guesstimating it will be around £20-£22 sent in a jiffy bag as they come boxed, which will be much pricier.

These are nicer, sleeved versions, not plain springs, as mentioned, retail boxed by a seller. Stand aloe springs are cheaper obviously but I have not seen them this time round and perhaps with newer cars having electric open and close boots, no-one really wants the older style these days, hence the decline in supply.

Let me know if you are interested as I fancy doing mine still and I have just purchased a set of bonnet lifters to go upfront, which I plan to install this week.

I can pass on the supplier of them, too, if you are interested. I would prefer to fit and test them first as would not recommend a piece of tummy rubbish to you!

If they work well, I will most likely post up on Briskoda anyway.

I did that a few years ago with a really nice set but they cost close to £50 so I saved my cash. Mine cost a few pence over £20, delivered!

PM or post, if interested.

Hi @mrgf, do you know if that source still supplies those springs?  Could you let me know who it is?

I doubt if they are still there. I had two sets and TBH they work ok if well greased and in warmer weather but tend to only part open if colder. This might be down to needing to be slightly longer springs or perhaps be better if you add a few washers to the springs, to add extra length. I was going to send the other set to the OP but they never replied again.

Did you do the bonnet struts and was there a write u available at all?

Thanks

I did do bonnet struts. Forget how much I paid for them but they are really simple to fit, the biggest obstacle being the need to loosen the bonnet hinges to slip the brakes in and re-tighten. Need to take cars so as not to damage the bonnet or lose its correct alignment position. Do one at time and all should be fine. I will try to look back at where I got mine as at first, I was gonna get some which I mentioned here once but they were more expensive and I ended up buying a kit for I think, around £20.

Thanks for the reply.

If you can find out it would be great.

I just bought a vrs and busy stripping it out soundproofing it, added an Android head unit and changing speakers adding amp. Added a back up camera, dash cam etc. I will be doing the bonnet struts once the rest of work is done but not much time as my nipper is off from school and I have to look after her.

Found where I got mine and they are now a tiny bit cheaper, too!

Aliexpress, The seller was called Auker Auto Accessories store. They came within a few weeks so don't worry too much about that. (There's an eBay seller, selling a similar product, for £40-odd quid). Go to aliexpress and type in this.

I mentioned (And negotiated discount for this site) The Soki ones a few years ago but the prices went up and are now over £50, for what you can have for less then £18 on Aliexpress!

fairplay for the negotiations and I undertsand your point ref cost V aliexpress, unfortunately I....as have many others around the world I'm sure been burnt by chinesium quality and I just don't buy into cheapness.

PS just looked at ALi, personally I don't like they way they mount to be honest, the Soki ones are far better "imo"

Three times better? Depends on your budget, I suppose. I would rather have the functional £18 ones, then the more expensive variant on my 11 year old Greenline driving school car but if I had a nice, expensive shiny VRS, I might have had the better ones, too! The cheap versions do the job though and lets face it, the gas shocks are all most likely "Chinesium", as you put it. The brackets are purely aesthetic.
