Aircon stopped working

Featured Replies

Hello all,I have a question for the team.If the pressure in the air conditioning circuit drops for any reason,is there a switch that stops the compressor running. My 2005,Fabia 6Y5 aircon has stopped working today,I have checked the fuses and they are fine.I have had the car for 5 years and the aircon has never been touched. Is there any recommended service period for it possibly ?Thanks in anticipation.

Yes.

You need a regas.

Not necessarily, get a VCDS scan done, the reading for the G65 sensor will show if a regas is needed, if it brings up a fault code for G65 open or short circuit then it needs replacing but can be done without a regas, a2nd scan will show the pressure.

Or if all seems well then look at the compressor shut down codes in measuring blocks.

Only then throw money at a regas if its needed.

After at least five years without any intervention a regas is a must if only to get a fresh charge of PAG oil and to test for leaks.

I bet the levels are low and it's cheap to do at this time of year.

An update on this, I had the local mobile aircon man out today,he plugged his machine in and said straight away”it looks like there is plenty of gas pressure”.He then dis-connected the plugs from the compressor and pressure switches and plugged a hand held controller in.Switched it on and the aircon was cold straight away.He then did the same as me and checked the fuses, all OK.So I said I would look into the control problem myself and what do I owe you,he said just give me a drink and I can come back when it’s sorted to top up the gas.So I need the wisdom of this forum before I start digging.Has anyone had a control problem and what was the outcome ? Also are there any schematics available on the internet,or does anyone have one they can send me as the Haynes manual has zilch.Thank you in anticipation.

This is where you will find what you are searching for.

If there is no shut down code, ie the Climatronic thinks it has activated the shuttle valve then it can only be a wiring/fuse problem.

Wish I had the use of a black box like he has to actuate the control valve.

Wish there were decent people like your air-con guy here in France that would look to their future business before fleecing me.

Checkout post #12 on the below thread. Might be of some use?

Check the wiring near the brown plug/socket connection on the bracket on the front of the gearbox.

As Wino has said, worth checking as mine had a broken wire....

Note to self .... get my aircon re-gassed  and see if it now works :D

So,decided yesterday to have a look at this problem as the weather has warmed up considerably, removed the belly plate and there it was,a broken wire on the brown plug, when I moved the wires to have a closer look the other wire fell off!

Cut the wires off the other end of the connector plug and soldered in 2 short lengths of fresh wire, started car and it’s blowing cold within about 30 secs.Result!

Thanks for the advice Wino and Jars

Tried my air con today since I fixed the wire above back in Janury and mine also now works 🤘Will still get it re-gassed to try and make it colder, but happy as larry as it’s not worked for about 5 years!

Had the car re-gassed yesterday, first time in 14 yrs so it’s worth the £50, especially as he came to the house.
