Tyre Pressure Warning System...Citigo

Featured Replies

Can anyone enlighten me as to how the low pressure warning works on Citigo. No wiring visible to wheels or valves,so how is the change in pressure detected???

It is done by trickery with wheel speed sensors linked to the ABS/traction control system.  When you set it and drive off it 'knows' the correct value to check against.  It then constantly compare this with what it sees and warns of a change.  I assume it also know when you are turning or spinning/locking wheels so it knows to apply the relevant safety system rather than screaming about tyre warnings.

@MartiniB - A standard TPS system will be fitted to @Blackcountryman CitiGo; It is mandated for new cars from 2012, and its function is part of our annual road worthiness inspection from 3 years old, when fitted.

@KenONeill

have you ever check what is difference between Direct and useless Passive Tire Pressure Monitoring System?

What is your qualification for making that statement?

look, if Superbs don't have Direct TPMS even as $$ option, then how Octavias and Citigos can have it?

See what I'm asking now?

open this link, after several false alarms i ignored one real one

And I can probably, if I felt it worthwhile, find at least one case where an active sensor failed causing an explosive decompression.

what? from the factory Škodas don't have sensors in wheels,

EU regulations obligated TPMS is realized by calculate data from ABS computer

Maybe we're having a language issue? To me a direct sensor measures a quantity directly, for example a pressure sensor might use a transducer to obtain that the pressure in the monitored space is X. A passive (also called an indirect) sensor infers the pressure by measuring another quantity, and you've already demonstrated that you understand how most indirect TPMS work. The key point to realise is that, every time you adjust the tyre pressures, or fit new tyres, you need to recalibrate the system.

Now, it follows from that that a direct TPMS sensor must be built into the wheel, and most manufacturers who use these systems combine them with the valves.

sorry, that's my English is so limited :)
what i tried to say is Indirect(Passive) TPMS is better than nothing, but has to many cons,
warning is calculated from ABS computer by count spin of each wheel,
as result there comes false or late warnings and no info where and what exact problem is present

with current cheap prices of Direct(phisical Sensors) TPMS it's almost must have equipment,
because gives immediate feedback of pressure and temperature for each tire without guessing what's wrong

There have been a number of threads about the standard TPMS. The conclusion seems to be that it does a decent job, without the complication of additional sensors in the wheels.

The most important factor is still the driver who needs to check the tyres at least occasionally. The system active or passive is just a prompt.

And, of course, no TPMS can tell you about wear caused by a tracking or camber issue.
