Replaced Xenon side lights - Fabia

Featured Replies

After much consideration (and a quote of £118 from dealer) I decided to fit the uprated bulbs myself.

Had some advice fron VRStu and forged ahead on this glorious sunny day.

Most of the operation was straight forward, lots of bits to remove but when the backs of the light units are off, it's easy peasy. Tight squeeze though.

Just remember that the side light bulb holders are a PUSH IN FIT  I spent 20 minutes turning them thinking they had 'lugs' for removal. (said the odd fowl word)

A long screwdriver and careful push up removes them easy.

I did disconnect the battery and wore some latex gloves as I was paranoid of a shock from the Xenon unit inside.

Biggest tip that I can give you, PATIENCE.

Will post some pictures when it's dark. (edit)

I keep telling people it's easy, if a little tight! :)

As long as you unplug the connector from the ballast unit, there's no need to disconnect the battery.

A bit of a walk through would be handy. Perhaps it could be made into a proper guide and put in the relevant section...

Would need to be titled

Fabia: How to change sidelight bulbs on xenon equipped cars

(or similar.)

Did you wear wellies and a condom too?!

Look good don't they. Particularly good with black eyebrows!!

When are you changing the main beams?

What lamps did you fit then?

I fitted the xenon type side lights but did not fit the Main beam at the same time as I honestly believed that there was little chance of doing the side lights in the first place. By the way, the original thread you posted some time back was a real help. Just needed to get stuck in and now i've fitted the side lights, the main beam will be sooo much easier.

I will photo the account when I do it for the guys who want the step by step guide for the side lights.
