A1 alloys in a MK1 Fabia?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Has snyone fitted Audi A1 16” rotors on a MK1?

I know a bit about wheel fitment already but I’m looking for some extra insight or knowledge if anyone has any lol.

As part of renewing all the suspension I am looking at replacing the original 14” steel wheels with some 16” rotors from a Audi A1. In case

the PCD on them is 5x100 and the tyres are 285/45 r16 so they should fit with no rubbing etc. What I don’t know is if the offset will be an issue.

thanks for any advice

285???

Sorry 215/45 :D

A1 is a Polo in drag so should be just fine.

Thanks appreciate your quick responses. Now I just have to see if I need to reduce the arch gap when they are on :wondering:

Find out the offset first, I almost bought a used get of A1 16" alloys with winter tyres for my wife's 2015 Polo 6C - but the difference in offset between an A1 and Polo 6C started to put me off, so that difference along with the not amazing price stopped me buying them.

Audi and SEAT seem to share the same or similar alloy wheel offsets, VW and Skoda are a bit different but I can't say by how much.

Edit:- I'm not trying to curb your enthusiasm, but adding a set of bigger and heavier wheels with a bigger rolling radius is really going to mess up the drivability of a car with a 1.2 6V engine, I hope that you have taken that into account.

There’s not much drivability to it haha.

But seriously I had been looking for a set of 15” alloys as that’s what you could get on the standard car as an extra. But everything either doesn’t look right on the car or is battered to within an inch of its life. And I’m not going to pay £150 for 4 alloys to then have to refurb them and paint them and then buy 4 new tyres.

id not given much thought to the drivability tbh. The idea of the car struggling to turn wheels 2” bigger hadn’t crossed my mind at all. I will be checking the ET before I buy them just to make sure there are no clearance issues.

I met a guy in Asda car park who had a 1.2 not sure if it was a 6v or 12v but he had MK1 vrs alloys on his and said other than the ride been a little harder because of the lower profile tyres it had it made any difference. So I’m hoping that it’s the same but if it is bad I’ll be getting rid or they’ll get saved for the Fabia or Octavia I get next.

Remember that while the MK1 VRS wheels/tyres will be near enough the same rolling circumference as your MK1 1.2 6v, the A1 alloys along with all the MK2, MK3 Fabia, 6J Ibiza and 6R and 6C Polo do tend to be on an 1" bigger rim.

For instance, my wife's old 2002 Polo had 14" winter wheels with 185/60 or 65 tyres, her 2015 Polo has 15" winter wheels with 185/60 tyres, so there is an increase in overall car gearing when you fit wheels and tyres from a newer car.

Yeah I understand that. I think the main thing at the moment is to check the ET if it has a bad effect on the car they can come off and I’ll keep looking for set of 15s in decent condition.
