Telltail signs of needing a flywheel/clutch

Featured Replies

HI guys,

Are there any telltail signs of needing a new Flywheel or clutch?

Coming from a fiesta petrol, i did notice that there was a bit (Not much at all, but noticeable for a diesel virgin) of vibration in the clutch pedal when lifting off the clutch.

I'm going to be going to AmD soon and will be getting a cambelt/pump done so if i have to, ill get clutch/flywheel done if need be.

Decent sale on Eurocarparts helps a lot :-)

Thanks

Its not a Skoda, rather a Golf that i believe has a similar engine.

Golf Tdi 2.0

2011 plate

I imagine the internals are pretty much the same to Skodas

Bit of tell tail sign is the biteing point of the clutch peddle is high ie: its almost all the way up before the car starts to move.

If your getting the clutch done, It'll be a lot cheaper to get the clutch and flywheel done at the same time.

couple of ways ive found good to test a clutch are:

up a hill in low gear (like 4th) and give it a boot to see if it starts to slip at all

my friend always states with the handbrake on try to see if the clutch slips against the handbrake trying to pull away.

Flywheels are difficult to say when they've had their day, common symptoms are

chatter - more so when the components are cold

large changes in sound when putting the clutch in and out

vibration in the pedal

what's your mileage?

THank you for that info

120k miles, mainly steady motorway miles (I know because im buying it off a m8 who just upgraded to a 2015 GTD)

I think i may just get it changed, Eurocarparts are doing a massive discount atm so i can pretty much buy a 3 piece clutch, flywheel and get the price of the clutch knocked off. Labour ive been quoted £200.
