wheel center logo needed

Featured Replies

hi guys i have bought some skoda logos for my wheels as some has fallen out but i have bought the wrong ones. i would have thought all would fit.

on my wheels there are 4 holes on the center but the ones i bought have got 8 clips on the logo.

any help would be great.

can anyone help me on this matter please?

ive been looking around and none of the logo cap has got 4 clips, they all have 8 clips.

Can you put up some photo's of your old and new? Usually, you would go by size anyway so one company might put different clips on but still fit. They usually just push fit, despite the amount of clips.

Lots of people fit cheaper Chinese ones which may be ok, some buy genuine replacements as they like the newer logo. I have a set of German made ones to fit, that strangely, came from China. I am hoping the German make is better despite being cheap. (Fingers crossed).

as you can see, on my wheel i have 4 holes and the new logo what i bought has got 8 clips.

I see the issue now. You need to pull those centre pieces out. You have just removed the covering bit but not the whole cap.

Where you have the holes in the caps, try slipping in a screwdriver or something and prise the whole bit out and then the new ones should just push in.

The clips you are counting on the new caps, are the back of the piece that is still in the wheel.

If you can't get that centre bit out easily, with either a screwdriver or even screwing in a screw and pulling it with pliers, the slower option is to jack up the car, remove the wheel and press them out from the back of the wheel. A pain in the proverbial but wheel-sorry, will work!

If you had not already had your replacement caps, often, you can just buy stickers that go straight on, where your de-logo'ed cap is!

Well, if you have measured both versions and they both are the same size, then it might be down to one having light weight clips boosted up by that inner spring ring - and the other having no inner spring ring so has and needs stronger heavier weight moulded clips - try tapping them in using a  rubber mallet.

One other thing, if you look inside the original centre caps, you will find the part number that you should have bought instead of the 1J0 version that you bought instead.

Perhaps try popping them in hot water and then tapping them in gently. Otherwise, smear some grease on the edges and tap them in. They look the correct size just might be tight.

Although they appear German, they are still non genuine parts, I think. They look like the Chinese versions you get on well known web sites. look at the VW logo. On Skoda caps, they should have the Skoda logo, which is usually a good clue.

Try placing an old and new one, back to back to see how much difference there is in the diameter, it will most likely be so small you can't tell, without a real close up look or measuring them!

I was thinking more likely, they'd be loose and need a little spot of silicone sealant to stop them falling off but yours id the opposite issue. Perhaps you could get a bit of rough sandpaper or emery and rub round and round the outer lips, until it fits. Again, a spot of sealant if you overdo it.

i have decided to get the original ones, do i just go on skoda website and order?

They will cost a lot more! Each cap will most likely cost more then the set of four you have. You could just order stickers that you could stick back on to your existing caps. They will be quite cost effective. Apply them nicely to the caps whilst the caps are off and then slip the caps back on.

Most people here go for the newer logo when they change, which is the black and chrome type ones on later cars. They look a little "Fresher" Then the green ones. Look nice on the black car, too.

I'm sure that I bought a cheap set of 4 VW wheel centres with that old VW part number on them, again they did not fit my purpose and I always thought they were cheap copies, as are your ones, genuine ones are best, but I did buy a set of genuine SEAT ones for my daughter's late 2009 Ibiza SC about 18 months ago, I've noticed this week that they are starting to "go off" at the edges, though maybe wheel rebalancers have been a bit rough with them, I always press them out from the inside and not by sticking a screwdriver in from the front while the wheels are still on the car.

Edit:- by the way, these prices for genuine centre caps are very very good, I think that I needed to spend about £15 each for a set for my 2011 S4 and that was with discount!

sorry i meant xman, got the names mixed up.

You might have to get your file out.

I bought some replacement centre caps to fit VW wheels I wanted to put on our Superb. VW and Skoda centre cap sizes are different and I bought the correct size going by my measurements and online descriptions. The size of the replacements was about right, but the clips had a slightly different shape and would not easily go into the centres and after some minor and careful filing down they fitted.

File em and fit em with a little tiny bit of silicone to stop any chance of fall out!
