TomTom geniuses - Report for Duty...

Featured Replies

 Hi,

I got a TomTom one a few months back and have just bought the european maps... However there is only about 3MB of memory left on the TomTom and the maps are like 400MB +. This seems weird as the TomTom memory is only 120MB ish in the first place...

How do I install the maps?

Help pls...!:o :P :o

Sounds like you'll need a larger SD card. The usual trick with tomtom updates is to remove an unwanted voice but you won't get that much space. If you can get a card copy your existing sd card onto it so you've got the OS (should be with the maps though) and then put the new maps on. You can then swap them out as you need to.

ok... Had just worked out that it is indeed a normal SD card... Thanks Neil!

Now Im thinking 1Gb, as 2Gb is too expensive and anything smaller is useless...

I have found one for 18.99 on amazon but a make i know little about - Viking.... Any thoughts?

Anyone know where I can get a good (are dif makes better/worse etc?) , but cheap 1Gb SD card???

cheers

I am using a 1GB compactflash card with my PDA version of Tomtom and have the UK Plus map along with full maps of several other european countries and room to spare.

I bought a 1 gig SD card from Aria computers a year ago for about 46 pounds and

it has been trouble free.

I've a 512 and it holds UK, France and Major roads of Europe no problems.

any SD cards'll be OK: check ebay for much cheapness, but amazon are pretty competitive...remember to get the speed camera POIs for it - *************************************...

It might be worth checking the My TomTom GO Forum here too for advice on memory cards.

oi DGW!

I was talking about the older POIs for speed cameras that used to be available from www.pocketgpsworld.co.uk - the new ones are now pay-only but the ones i've got were free and freely available - I don't want tarring with the dodgy software brush thank you very much!
