Rear brake lights flashing when car is locked.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. New problem on my Octy today... When I lock the car, the rear brake lights flash continuously (approx 2 flashes per second) . The only way to stop it is to unlock the car again.

As soon as you relock it, they start flashing again. Any ideas why?

Ok this is weird, noticed that when locking the maxi dot display goes mental... See the video :)

Something to do with the boot lid maybe?

I have got the VCDS change that makes the brake lights come on when the boot is open (ala Sasha!) and it's worked fine for months...

But then why would the inside lights go crazy too?

Have you fitted LEDs anywhere in the car?

Mine was doing this the other week, check the rear internal roof light is not left on.

I do, in the boot and the front internal light.

Bingo! I think this was it... Turns up my littleun had gone around the car pressing all the buttons he could, including the rear internal light. I wonder why this causes this response?

Thanks for your help both!

Other members have had issues with LEDs and the car thinking the boot is open. I have LEDs but I dont get this problem. Are yours the Ali express kind or the osram/philips variety?

Seeing the maxidot flash that the rear hatch was open looks to me like an LED causing some kind of electrical noise.

The boot ones are"high quality" AliExpress items, but the front internal are Philips. No guesses which is causing it!
