Using Octavia tyres

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a full set of 205 55 16 winter wheels and tyres from my previous mk2 vrs sitting idle in storage.

Can I fit these to my 4x4 S3 150 tdi without issue? I'm aware there will be discrepancies in the rolling radius (it's shot with 235 45 18 wheels)  but as I'll be changing all 4 wheels, will it be that big an issue?

Thanks

H rated, if I'm not mistaken.

I've used them online calculators before and seen the difference in size.

Just wondering if anyone has any first hand knowledge to share.

Cheers

I don’t know about UK but in Croatia it’s illegal to have difference in circumference of more than 2% and your is 5.8%.

Right, point taken.

I guess I'd better sell them on then.

A shame, as I'd just put new tyres on 2 of them.

You also need to check the load index number (usually given immediately before the speed rating letter - something like 97H).  If the number is lower than those listed on the tyre pressure/tyre size plate then again the answer is no you can’t (Construction & Use Regulations), but you can go with a higher number.

Your insurers may not like it either as it counts as a modification from the factory standard and needs to be reported/approved by them.

or use one as a spare - the full size spare wheel is an odd 205/55/16 from memory (and a space saver for cars with bigger brakes )
