New owner thoughts and some questions

Featured Replies

Having now been the proud owner of an SEL exec model 190 4x4  for the past 2 months 16 model year with 1000 miles on it when purchased now just 3000 miles and  having come from a Mondeo Vignale estate I have some observations and some newbie questions.

Covered before in other posts - auto stop / start I  just cant wait to get this feature switched off.  Boot (trunk) opening button but not closing and such a silly silly  place to position the button. Metallic Black Pearl - what a bugger to keep clean  I seem to be cleaning it every other day!

Getting approx 500 miles to the tank at the moment and I’m a pretty conservative driver so about 100 miles less then the Mondeo.

Considering the Mondeo 16 reg and Superb were identical in age, the tech especially the infotainment / nav system and general quality is far superior in the Superb although cabin noise suppression isn't as good maybe due to the fact that I have 19” alloys on the superb as opposed to the 18” on the mondeo?

Cabin Storage space in the Ford much better  however but overall cabin in the Skoda seems to be larger as we all know.

ACC is great, didn't have it on the Mondeo so cannot comment if better or not. However a question regarding ACC when it slows  to compensate for a car in front do the brake lights come on?

Also the graphic of the car when in ACC mode is a white Skoda Superb  MkII as well which is odd lol.

Auto main beam has to be activated by pushing the light stalk forward every time you start a journey not a biggie but why?

I have my lights set on auto all the time but there isnt a symbol on the instrument cluster to say whether they have come on or not especially in fog or rain so will change to normal setting just in case. It would be nice to see a light symbol for reassurance.

Otherwise all good and dandy. Engine note on the superb is a bit ‘dronie’ ( is that a word?) unless you floor it and then it has a nice growl but gradually getting used to being a Superb owner after 15 years in Ford Mondeos.

Thanks for all the advice. Great Forum.

Not much to say except nod a lot. I don't think brake lights activate ACC to slow, as I was in a situation yesterday where I saw brake lights come on and my car continued to close the gap for a while and then started slowing. Been a bit confused about the following distance actually, some days the car seems to follow closer and further on the same setting at the same speeds :)

FWIW don't know if you saw this post, my equivalent thoughts post. - Auto-Hold vs Park-Brake (Things the manual didn't explain well)

A lot to agree with there @Mactab. A couple of comments from me. Yes the brake lights come on when ACC brakes to keep you behind the car in front. My HBA is active all the time unless I disable it. I keep the lights on auto and the high beam lever forward. Do you have the little "A" in the headlight symbol on the dash?

You do have a symbol for when the lights are on, but stupidly it is not on the dash but on the light selector itself. And I must confess I thought that the ACC "car in front" symbol was an Octavia!:D

Thanks Jeff & Digifish

Yes I have the little a in the headlight display and that auto high beam function works.

I never thought to look at the actual switch to see if it was illuminated ! Used to Fords for too long I think.

The reason I asked about my rear brake lights coming on whilst using ACC was if they didnt that would be pretty dangerous for anyone following. Though did wonder if they came on when making slight changes in speed as that would be pretty annoying for a following vehicle as well.

I have changed the rear reversing bulbs to LED which was pretty easy and have yet to tackle the front fogs and rear indicators.

The umbrellas are a gimmick and would prefer extra space in the door bins.

The car came with fitted Skoda rubber mats throughout with unused luxury mats in the boot so will change them for the summer months and revert to rubber come the bad weather.

Having its first MOT come end of June so will get some coding done after that.

4x4 and DSG must be hitting the mpg (and maybe right foot!)  190 manual combi here and got over 750 miles (54.64mpg) on last tank, mixed driving with a couple of short spirited motorway runs, expecting similar on current tank

Sorry misunderstood, thought you meant ACC braking when the cars lights infront were detected. Yes if the car brakes your own lights come on. However sometimes ACC relies on engine braking too, in this case they wouldn't
