MK1 project

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am undertaking a project car and want to ask a few things before I get started fully.

1. Are the Octavia MK1 and any other chassis the same? for example donor car parts? Such as the 4WD system?

2. What internal engine components are there out there accessible in the UK for the 1.8 20V engine? I have an uprated turbo coming which will need seriously strong internals (forged parts capable of 400 HP etc)

3. Does anyone have a 1.8t 20V 4x4 version for sale cheap, can be a MOT failure, I just want the 4wd system.

I am intending on doing a rally/hill climb style car for a fun project and I have always loved the Octavia since I used to be a mechanic.

Cheers

Richard

Mk4 Golf, Mk1 A3, Mk1 Leon, are all the same chassis as Mk1 Octavia.

You’ll need the chassis from the 4x4 if planning on running 4x4 or rear wheel drive as the rear suspension is completely different to the rear on a FWD chassis.

There are plenty of tuning companies out there that have upgrade parts for 1.8t Vag engines. Awsome Gti, and Darkside Developments are to name a couple.

Hope that helps?

Thank you for the swift reply.

It helps thank you. I thought they were all the same chassis but I wanted to be sure.

I was intending on getting a 4x4 and then upgrading it. I just cannot find one for less than £500 for a start point.

Unfortunately you won’t with it being a 4x4.

Different floor and rear suspension.

I know they are different. hence why i want one as a base

Some people have done it before, welding in the rear floor plan from the 4x4 version if I remember correctly. It’s possible with the right tools and time.

Alternatively, there is a very rare, 4x4 hatchback/saloon model, but getting hold of one would be a miracle.
