Hi, I have a 2016 Superb 1.6 diesel. The gearbox has been giving me some trouble for about 18 months now. I dropped it in just before the warranty was up and they took out the box, said all was ok and replaced a shaft that carries the cogs etc. The problem is that it can sometimes be hard to get into or out of gear. This happens on 1,3,5 and reverse. I went back to the dealer today and asked them to look at it again as it seems to be getting worse. I was then informed that as the warranty was expired, it would cost me money to have another look at the problem!! The gearbox is not covered by warranty even though it came back worse than when they took it in!!

Does anyone know if this is a common problem so I can build a case to have my gearbox repaired/replaced under warranty?

Many thanks in advance

With regards to the problem i cant help, but regarding the warranty i should be i was a warranty manager at a couple of vw/skoda dealers.

The issue will still be covered as it was raised whilst the car was under warranty and being the same issue.  The fact that they didnt fix it is irrelevant. They should be using the original job sheet reception date when raising a new job card so the claim can be processed. When we put a claim down it wont let you put a reception date in later than when the warranty expires, which must match the job sheet.

Its no different if my car was going into the workshop on the very last day of warranty with a dsg gearbox problem which they diagnose as needing a complete new unit. Part has to be ordered and could take a few days to arrive plus fitting it etc will take it well over the warranty.

Speak to the service manager/warranty guy there and tell him this.  Theres toooo many warranty clerks who have no idea what they are doing!
