Brake servo vacuum pipe

Featured Replies

I have a 2002 Automatic AUA petrol engine Mk1 Fabia. The hard black plastic vacuum pipe  from engine to brake servo has started to split next to the non-return valve, common problem apparantly.  It is part 6Q2612041B but Skoda say this is no longer available.

I plan to replace it between the non-return valve and the servo with silicone vacuum hose but I do not know what internal diameter hose I need to fit over the barbs on the connectors at each end. I do know that 4mm is too small !.

Can anyone tell me what internal diameter I need?

Thanks

Just cut the split bit off, heat it up and push it back on.

Sepulchrave Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately the cut and refit will not work for me as the pipe is a simple straight run of 30cm from the non-return valve to the 90 degree connector on the servo . Any reduction in length will make the pipe too short. It is not like some of the longer more complex shaped pipes which will allow a bit of wiggle room.

There is a brand new one on ebay. The only difference is an 'E' on the end of the part number instead of a 'B'. It might be the same though as I think the end letter often just denotes that there has been a modification. Worth checking.

TMB, thank you. I had previously been in touch with the ebay seller, (Rainworth Skoda) about this item, 6Q2612041E. It is similar to mine but not identical, Mine has the inlet and outlet of the non-return valve in-line and the 90 degree rubber pipe between the non-return valve and the engine in the same plane as the servo 90 degree connector but facing in the opposite direction (towards the engine).  Rainworth confirmed part E is not correct for my car, There are some helpful diagrams on http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/FAB/year/2002/drive_standart/225/hg_ug/611/subcategory/611070/part_id/0/lang/e#sec_7

Part B on my car looks like item 7 in the diagram although they show part B as item 6 which I think is wrong. Part E is shown as item 7 but the picture on ebay shows that it is different at the non-return valve end.

Perhaps I will buy part E and try and fit it, or even just make use of the plastic pipe section.

Interesting that the ebay pics show an expiry date on the part, 2018/09, I wonder what is expected to happen to plastic after this date?

As you've discovered, parts with the same initial 9 characters but different suffix letters can be completely different, non-interchangeable parts.

I suggest a visit to a scrapyard, and the harvest of a length of the rigid tubing off AN Other VW group  car that has a longer straight (or approx. straight) length which could then be cut down and re-used with the method sepulchrave suggests. I imagine every VW group car from the last 20 years uses the same diameter and same material pipe, and some engines definitely have a longer path for the vac hose.

Once having fitted your 'new' length of rigid hose (or actually just before), I suggest adding one or two fixings at each end, to reinforce the plastic and maybe prevent it re-splitting under the hoop stress of being over the barbs of the end fittings.  Something like a small jubilee clip, a fuel hose clip, or simply a couple of cable ties.  Nothing overly tight, just a little bit of 'help' for the surface of the plastic.

Ah OK.

The only constant across the range is the position of the servo in the engine bay, this only depends on whether it's RHD or LHD, every engine variant fitted would need different pipework, so the part number, no matter whether it's 10 or 11 digit would have to be identical unless there was an additional suffix letter which would simply denote a change in supplier or materials rather than a physical difference.

Hope that clears it up for any passive/aggressively inclined types out there, I wouldn't want to be misunderstood and get sued further down the line.

Makes very little sense to me sep.

The part numbers are different for different engine variants, and for RHD vs LHD (the third digit). The differences apart from the third digit are the suffix letter(s) after the 9 main digits.  You regularly claim that those suffix letters don't indicate physical compatibility differences. But they may well do, as seen here: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2002-225/6/611-611070/ and as observed by the OP.

The PR codes in the ' data model' column can be translated into engine/gearbox variants via resources such as this: http://vag-codes.info/files/options/vag-option-codes.pdf

OK. So pop the fitting off the servo, cut the tatty end off (mainfold end usually), get a bit of 12.5mm ID reinforced hose (I robbed a bit with just the right curve off a scrap BMW) and use it to couple the cut rigid pipe to the ridged non-return valve connected to the manifold. Works a treat. Push fit adequate as pipe is always at negative pressure so won't blow the coupler off but add crimps/clamps if you like. Hope this helps.

Missed a bit out ... "pop the fitting off the servo"... lift the whole pipe out then..."cut the tatty end off "...

For all the passive-agressive letigious types out there: "No liability accepted if you rap your knucles or take out a nuclear power station after following my advice."

WTF was that about, Sepulchrave ?

oops - meant aggressive, of course. 🙃

Shame you can't edit posts on this platform. Or perhaps you can. Anyone out there know how ?

I think you have to be a 'Freedom' member and then you can edit your own posts. It costs a small amount per year.

Thanks TMB. I am the king of typos. Guess I should look at the screen before I click "Post". Cheers

I'm not 100% sure about the Freedom thing though. Do you have the 3 dots showing at the top right of your posts? If you do that's what you click to edit.

Just spotted another one: "...rap your knuckles or..." Might join as I will probably be on here a lot. Seems like a good forum. Thanks.

No. The three dots just gives me "Report" or "Share". How much does it cost to get Edit in my dots ?

Mmm... Says nowt about editing posts but I'll give it a go anyway. We'd better stop this before the moderators chuck us off for going off topic. Thaks for your advice,

I have the £10 one and can edit. Not sure about the £6 one.

Nah, the mods won't bother us for this.

And no worries 👍
