MY19 Octavia vRS Lighting

Featured Replies

As per an earlier post I'm currently awaiting delivery of my vRS Challenge, I've been given a build date of 29th May so hopefully sometime in June.    I know that it comes with full LED lights front and the high rear lights, but I can't find any information about the number plate lights, boot light, interior lights.  Can anyone please advise if these are also LED?

Thanks.

Number plate lights will be - they have been LED since Facelift was released.

Bootlights and interior lights almost certainly not LED and will need replacing.

Built on 29 May is probably going to be MY20, just. I believe model years usually change at the beginning of week 22, which is 27 May this year. I don't remember seeing any posts here relating to this year's changes though.

Thanks for the info guys.  You could be right about MY20, a week or so after I put in my order I noticed the Skoda site was updated and showed 'New Trim' against the Challenge, albeit without any indication what has changed.

Some interior LED's may need to be added to my list of subtle mods I'm already considering.

not sure as details are sketchy though my MY19 was built in March this year (just taken delivery couple of days ago) and mine has LED bulbs on the outside, so number plate etc. all bulbs on the interior are ‘old’ tech halogen.

It was week 22 but is now week 28/29.

Is that a permanent change?

If its me your asking, then yes.

Would I be correct in saying that the reverse and indicator bulbs are still standard halogens, not sure about the fog light?

Looking at various threads I know many people have fitted LED's for the reversing lights, a quick search and I've found these, seem like a steal at the price.

Does anyone have experience of replacing the indicators bulbs and/or suggestions of a suitable error free LED?  I've seen these listed in a post from 18 months back, but there was little information about the quality.

If the Mk3 is on phase out will there actually be a MY20 Specification?

Fog light is LED. You’re correct about the reverse and indicators. I’ve replaced the indicators with those in the link below. They are pricey, but I didn’t want some cheap Alibaba special. Hence why I went for them. They didn’t throw up an error but I went ahead and coded them properly as LED anyway.

I’ve not yet replaced the reverse lights and probably won’t now. My car is a lease and goes back in a year so don’t really see the point now.

it says they are not for road use and are illegal...

quote.......

(Though these LED bulbs can be fitted to any PY21W fitting – inside or outside the vehicle – their usage in an exterior application is not road legal; such usage must be confined to off-road driving.)

  • Not road legal – only suitable for off-road usage

Yep, it does indeed. The 99p Alibaba ones will be as well. I’d wager you’d be hard pushed to find an LED replacement that is road legal.  Plenty about though.

Didn't realise that, as you say see plenty of people retro fitting them.

Obviously the traffic police have better things to do.

Do people shove the original ones  back in for MOTs'?

An "acquaintance" has had non road legal LEDs (and HID conversion to reflector headlamps) fitted to one of their cars for 9 years and it has always passed its MOT test (at 4 different test stations) - even in February 2019 under the new stricter lighting guidelines/rules.

Providing you use a decent orange LED there is no reason for the MOT tester to look any deeper (mine passed it’s 1st MOT @ Škoda with the Philips LED indicators fitted)

God I so hate the "my mate, he's had no end of xxxxx installed in his car and it always passes an MOT"

Two things - first, shows how **** that MOT tester is and if they aren't spotting things like this then they are potentially letting dangerous vehicles onto the road.

Secondly - fantastic, your mate with his HID into reflector lenses is blinding ever oncoming driver like a bell-end.

Those people with stupid illegal light setups which cause problems for other drivers should be taken off the road and crushed.

As I posted, his car has been passed by 4 different MOT test stations, so it's not a single MOT tester and more likely a systematic problem.

IMHO shows that the system is broken, and needs a root & branch overhaul?
