    With regards painting stuff because there's no engine cover, I think it might be considerably quicker and easier to fit an engine cover instead?  Certainly are available for Polos at least, see photos

also just wanted to say thank you to you all for helping me out. It’s been a long time since I’ve done anything this invasive on a car.

Both really. If you want it to last then the prep and paint has to be right for aluminium.

I’m actually debating buying another head and timing cover. Send the head off for the work I’m having done anyway to make sure it’s 100% and then taking abit of time to make sure that I can clean and prep it properly. I’m not doing half a job lol.

 

also means I can keep the head on and keep the car movable until the head is ready then hopefully do the whole thing over 1 or 2 days.
