scout boot not "popping" open

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ive just got a 3 year old scout but found when i press the boot release button on the fob it unlocks but doesnt pop up a few inches like my old Octy did.

Any ideas ... is this due to failed gas struts as these are strong enough to hold the boot up once it is open but might not have the ooomph to.do the initial "pop".

Cheers

The boot doesn’t pop. It’s how they are. You could possibly install the little spring loaded poppers from another car but there is no guarantee it’ll pop. Aftermarket struts with springs will open it all the way but I’m doubtful they will last any length of time.

Hmmmmm, My mk 2 always popped up a few inches when the boot button on the key fob was pressed and that only had the standard struts. With no spring helpers.

Has this changed between the mk2  and mk 3 ?

Thanks

Same with my O3 - the boot unlocks but moves only a fraction of an inch up.

Maybe your Mk2 had a fault..........Mine doesn't pop up a few inches either. Never has.

As above, on a 3 without electric tailgate it's:

* Push briefly to unlock, need to push button on boot handle in to open, pretty sure it will re-lock automatically if left and can be locked again with fob

* Hold for a little longer and the boot can be opened just by lifting it up, no need to push a button. I don't believe it will be re-locked automatically, or by hitting the fob

Uchuff - Thats how my Octy 2 worked but with the boot popping up on the longer press there was less risk of not realising it was off the catch.

If it doesnt pop then im not sure what the point of the longer press.

To be honest im really suprised that on a longer press the boot would just sit there unlocked and off the catch.

Petroldave - you say yours moves up slightly .... mine doesnt move at all.

Am i right in thinking that some move a bit and some dont, or is the norm that it doesnt move ???

Thanks

@3rdoctavia I think it's the norm that it doesn't move buddy, other than just enough so it doesn't auto lock. The tailgate is too heavy to be pushed or held up by anything (that is on the vehicle) other than just sitting on the electromagnetic and sprung locking mechanism itself.

The gas struts won't do this alone.

Some guys have fitted different struts with springs i believe, to try and lift it fully automatic. There's a huge thread / topic on this somewhere, but i do not think they had a great deal of luck with it.
