When did they stop selling Yeti 4x4s?

Featured Replies

Looking at buying a really late 4x4 Yeti. The latest registration dates I can find on approved used are March 2017, were there any later than that? Did they stop 4x4 production before the 2WD variants?

I bought one if the very last 2x4 Yetis, pre-registered July 2017. I think you have one of the last in a March 2017. I don't suppose you'd worry about the odd month. I love my Yeti. Buy it!

To be honest I was thinking the road tax would be lower on an April 2017 registered car and I think it is but only by £15.

I had one until March this year, a 1..4 L & K model which was first registered in March 2017, I have seen a few on 67 plates but can't think you'll find many registered after that. As long as the car you are looking at is in good condition I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Anyones guess.  Who was it first registered to Skoda / VW or a Dealership or a named person which can be anyone at a dealership.

They will say Ex Management, so can be a 'Demonstrator', used by Staff / Employees, Friends / Family of Employees, Hire / Courtesy car etc etc.

Only important thing being to have got 3,000 miles on it before resale.

5k. over 2 years is very low though.

Having said that my wife only had a short commute in her Mini and only did that sort of mileage. In fact it's 9 years old now and has 29k. on it and my 5 year old TT has 10k. on it so there are low mileage cars around.

Being a petrol Yeti it could have been a second car or have had retired owners.

If it's all good though and what you want then snap it up.

My car was built in late April or early May 2017, to order, possibly within 2 or 3 weeks of the end of production which was either late May or very early June 2017.

It has the cheaper road tax as registered in late June for putting on road 1st July 2017.

As part of ordering it we had a couple of test drives. These were in Yetis registered to the garage and used by sales staff, but used for longer test drives. WEe were lent a Monte Carlo 4x4 for several hours so I could decide if I wanted a dsg or not, as never previously had an auto.

There were cars around for ages built speculatively, as diesels were being vilified by then. Definitely a number of 67 reg Yeti's around. Wouldn't be surprised to see some 18 reg?

Road tax before was £185, after 1/4/19 all cars dropped to £140 (Wouldn't want to own a Ford mustang! tax before the change was £1050 or so a year, after 1/4 was 140. You did have a premium on first purchase though of about £2k? Who would buy a march Mustang and pay that tax every year when he could buy a 1 month newere car and save £900 a year?)

My SEL 4x4 DSG is a 67 reg.

My Yeti 4x4 was registered at the end of May 17 as a demonstrator, and I bought it after the normal 90 days on 1st September. My understanding was that there were still some floating around the system, so early 67 reg would be possible as ejstubbs says above.

There were still unused Yetis around in 2018, but they may well have been registered by then and sold with near zero mileage?

I've seen one or two diesels 4x4s on a 67 but the on the petrols the latest I've seen are 17 plates. The one I was after (and another on the short list) were sold on Saturday before we could view.

Anyone know what kind of margins the dealers are working on on the ex VWFS low mileage cars bought in as approved used?

Looked at another ex VWFS 17 1.4TSi 4x4 L&K listed at £18.5K (!) at the weekend but the dealer seemed reluctant to budge more than £200 from his initial position. Surely he's got a lot more to play with than that?

That car will have been bought into stock for £17,000. Dealers start with a £1,500 margin/profit. Down to the buyer to get as close to the lower figure as possible without annoying them too much.

Well I was looking for £500 "off" effectively but they weren't moving., which seems strange as they only got into stock late last week so moving it on quickly would seem a win for them.

I reckon they'll be happy to hold out for the £300 difference for a week or so, since they'll probably only settle up at the end of the month. Bank holiday weekend might mean more punters out as well, so the ball seems to be in your court? And he'll be telling them he already has a customer (you) interested in the car.

Is it an in demand version? he may sit on it for a short period hoping to get near his price, afterwards if no sale, who knows!

I have always checked what mark up the local Skoda dealer has put on my old cars and it is usually £1,500. Back in 2013 we traded in our 4 year old Kia Picanto 1.1 Chill (metallic Silver plus air con) with only 14,000 miles since new happy to get £3,850 trade in and that went up for £4,950.

I seem to recall that the 1.4 petrol engine was in demand at the time, and probably even more so now with the diesel scares, congestion charges and the like.

Yeah but these cars are bought from VWFS in closed dealership auctions rather than being trade-ins, so may be more/less of a mark up.

Well every dealer we talk to says they're like hens teeth in this spec, but that's surely reflected in the starting price.

They come with a very nice spec in L & K trim but important to remember this is a face lift version of a discontinued model that originally launched 9 years ago, which you can use in your favour against the dealer.:)

Ball's not really in my court, happy to wait until the next one comes along as at least with the L&K spec is not very variable.

might be a long wait at your desired price and trim level!!
