Exhaust question

Featured Replies

Finally washed the car + found the right exhaust outlet is just cosmetic ! The left one has both pipes tucked away within.

Not fussed really, but then surprised when today parked next to another mk3 + spotted it was different - one exhaust pipe tucked behind each of those outlets. What gives ?

Mines a diesel too, you need to spend some coin and get a decent system, the good thing is its already setup to take a dual box as its the same configuration as the petrol, you just need the correct tip on the RHS and a new exhaust too.

Do these twin exhaust pipes add improvement or is it purely cosmetic.

To make an improvement in performance on a diesel you will need to make other changes to the inlet, fuel and mapping as a minimum to increase the air flow sufficiently that the stock exhaust will offer a restriction.  A standard, diesel engines 'breath' quite freely and the inlet and outlet systems provide very little in the way of restriction.

Adding two back boxes is a cosmetic mod on a diesel. Don't think it even does much to the sound, does it @JohnnyType2. That's why you've the sound machine underneath isn't it?

You'd have to do modifications further back for it to make a difference. You're talking manifold, the catalytic converter, the DPF and then all the pipe work between. The extra back box just gives the current gas flow a choice of two exits.

Having said, it is something I do wish to do, as I want both sides to have the fumes coming out of :D

yes correct and all that work is already done, 3" down pipe, cat and dfp. There's no difference in sound with a dual back box so the kufatec unit does make a huge difference and can be turned on/off as well.

Forgive me sorry, I have tried to search through your posts. Is your new exhaust system resonated?
