Anything good against thieves ?

Featured Replies

What do you recommend to have in Kodiaq against thieves (except horrible smells which don't always work ... 😉 ) ? I know that there is no 100% protection but anything which would make it more difficult ?

Keep everything out of sight (don’t place things in the boot when you pull up as potential scum bags thieves will see you do it) park in a well lit area, make sure you have decent insurance.

If they want it then a pro will take it, end of story, the trick is not to have anything on show to raise the opportunists interest in your car, let them move onto another that has things on show.

Baseball bat if you can get close enough.:blush

.. A pair of rotweilers in the back might work but then again, think of the damage they might do too!

Seriously though, perhaps the most sophisticated alarm you can fit, which is compatible with the car's own electrics/electronics. I would think if it already has an alarm, it will be fairly basic, compared to what CAN be fitted.

Many of the "Fitted in seconds" Devices are also "Removed in seconds" By a professional tea-leaf!

If the car has deadlocks, use them. Every time. I most likely refer to older cars now but some cars had locks where one press of the remote locks the doors, the second, done within a few seconds, deadlocks the locks. This prevents the doors from opening, even if you smash a window and try to open the doors from the internal handle. (My old Yaris has them). As I say, use them as they are useless if you don't!

My stupid daughter did not and someone smashed the small door mirror and opened the door to nick a few bits and bobs. With the locks on, they would only have been able to nab what was in reach!

A weeks wait for a new window, a pain in the bum fitting and a good hoovering later, hopefully she learnt!

Being serious for a second driving a Skoda is a great way of avoiding the tea leaves because I have never even had a window smashed in the last 16 years of buying Skoda's. Plenty of BMW's, Mercs, Range Rovers in the list of top ten most stolen motors in the UK. Also even hot hatches most stolen are Golf R rather than SEAT Leon or Vrs models, hence low insurance groups for most Skoda's.

Skoda’s all deadlock on the FIRST press of the remote / door handle (KESSY), if you press it a second time you are turning the deadlocks OFF!

Thanks @Gizmo - this is what we will do anyway 🙂

I was also thinking of Disklok. What size is the steering wheel in SE TDI 2.0 ?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Disklok-Steering-Security-Thatcham-Approved/dp/B00SLB6WXE/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Disklok&qid=1558173770&s=gateway&sr=8-1

says there are 3 sizes:

Small 35cm-39cm

Medium 39cm-41.4cm

Large 41.5cm-44cm

Which one would fit Kodiaq SE TDI 2.0 ?

A quick google brings up 375mm

Personally I'm not a fan of them as they can mark the steering wheel, are a PITA to fit without marking bits of trim, are a PITA to store and if someone is intent on taking the whole car then this will not stop them, but granted it will make it a bit more difficult which may be enough for them to move onto another?

That's good to know. Be aware though, that other people read threads, even if it does not relate to their own ride! I have an 09 Fabia, no Kessy but have looks here and there on other threads, o expand my knowledge as well as offer a little advice. The advice may be useful to someone!😀

As others have said try not to leave anything in sight, jackets, bags, tools etc.

An old saying I heard is very true “what the eye doesn’t see the heart doesn’t bleed for”.

Following a theft fom from a previous estate car, I was told by the police that even putting the tonneau cover across the boot would entice them to break in because there must be something under there worth stealing (quote - red rag to a bull). So if it’s empty I would suggest leaving the boot uncovered.

A free crime prevention tip is to de-activate Kessy (if fitted) when your keys are stored nearby, typically at home overnight. It stops relay type theft (until the motion sensitive keys are available - hopefully at a discounted rate (are you reading this SUK?))

To quote the manual;

  • Lock the vehicle with the button on the key.
  • Within 5 s, touch the sensor on the door handle with your finger. Deactivation is confirmed by a single flash of the direction indicators.
  • To check the deactivation, wait at least 10 seconds and then pull the door handle. The door must remain locked.

The KESSY system is activated again automatically after the vehicle is unlocked.

Sorry for my ignorance but ... what is car deadlock ?!

Where you cannot open (a locked) car by pulling the inside door handle.

So if they break a window all they can do is crawl into the car, the doors will still not open.

Do all your 'preps' before setting off, or pull over somewhere safe a little distance from your destination and do them.

Some people may see the disk lock as a 'challenge' and do your vehicle for sh!tz and gigglz!

Damned if you do, damned if you don't!

May be worth investing in a tracker.

If a scum bag smashes a window and reaches for the internal door release to open the door then they will not open if the deadlocks have been activated when locking the car.:)

Could always leave a number of drawing pins on the drivers seat when you lock the car. Just have to remember to remove them before you jump back in.:tongueout:

Is it in all Skoda models ?

I’m wondering if your average thief would disconnect / disable the tracking on Skoda connect?

As said, I’d be more concerned if it was a more desirable marque, perhaps badge snobbery has a use?

Personally, a chunk of very thick (8mm ish links) chain secured permanently to the seat base then looped through the steering wheel when necessary and secured using a quality padlock.

IMO one of the easiest deterrents to use. Quick on, quick off (with the key), and very easy to hide under the seat when not in use.

...............Waiting for someone to say thieves will cut the steering wheel..................:dull:

It is a very good deterrent to the theft of the vehicle. Obviously as others have stated, never leave things on show either............

Certainly all the current ones, pretty sure even the MKI Fabia / Octavia had deadlocks as well.

The pro’s would just use a signal blocker until they got to where they are going, then disable it at their leisure.

A pair of decent bolt cutters is all you would need, anything placed under the seat is a bad idea when you have to brake very hard.

Alternatively the state could employ people to track down these thieves and bring them to prosecution, rather than civilians just issuing a crime number....😉

it might even be worth having somewhere to keep them off the streets (the criminals not the police) and punish them for their illegal acts....

What do do they say about politics and religion?

Oh, I wont bother then. Might not put my windows up either cos all they need is a brick.

Oh no, they wont need a brick.........................................cos they've all got bolt croppers, Lol. :shake:

Ok, thieves may have them in their vehicles when driving around looking for vehicles to nick, though i doubt it, and it is still a good deterrent IMO.

It is VERY easy to secure it so it does not interfere with ANYTHING if you have to brake hard.

Frankly, I wouldn't worry about it beyond taking the sensible precautions mentioned earlier in the thread about not leaving things out.

Life's too short. Get decent insurance. Revel in the fact that Skoda vehicles aren't terribly attractive to thieves, only to us aficionados.

I’ve found our German Shepard is an excellent deterrent. I’ve a great webcam video, where he jumped up barking after some yob tried the door. The yob ran full blast in to a parking sign and had to be carried of by his mates 😱😂

Some users here take a relaxed attitude to theft.but when I,ve worked for something, I value it. Every new car I've bought over the years, some scroat has tried to thieve...even from a locked garage.

We have a toothless police force who no longer see these acts as serious crime worth looking at ,so I try to adapt to the changing situation........

Depends what you want you want to spend, but what about a mini in- car camera that activates when motion on the car is detected - easy enough to diy install.

Stick some visible labels on the glass, advertising that you have a motion camera fitted. With a picture, you might find someone on social media who knows the local talent.....and do the police work for them,,,,,,

If you have a garage, shift out the junk ,get and alarm to alert you,and use it for the car,
