Multimedia unit replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all,
I have a 2015 Octavia VRS which is fantastic, however the DVD/CD drive has failed in the multimedia unit in the glovebox.
The head unit is fine and the SD card slots are fine.
Is the unit 'dumb' in that I can simply find a used drive/multimedia unit and swap this over with my faulty one?

Thanks in advance,
Ash

No, the unit in the glovebox is the 'brain'.  The screen is the dumb bit.  To replace you will need a new/used unit and get component protection (CP) removed and then get it coded to your vehicle.  If that's the route you want to go then I recommend upgrading to the later MIB2 standard which will give you smartlink among other options for things like a bigger screen (which you will need if going MIB2).

Why don't you look into getting the current unit fixed?  Must be a mechanical fault?

If you want a unit from that age car I have one waiting to go on e bay just haven't got round to it yet.  Will still need CP removed and coding done which will set you back over £200 and I'd want about £100 for my unit as a guess to how much it would be.

Thanks Mark,
This is a huge help.

It appears to be a mechanical fault - I'll look into having it repaired instead.
Really appreciate the advice.

Regards,
Ash

No worries.  Also just seen your location!  Don't think it'd be practical to post my unit to you even if you wanted it!!!!  🤣

Just a little swim away!
It probably wouldnt be too bad for the drive itself, but the head unit and the drive (due to size) would be quite costly.
