"easy" mods for 2.0 TDi CFGB engine?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

on my former Fabia 1 there were some easy things to do, to make the engine perhaps better?

One was to fit the bigger air intake from the Seat Ibiza Cupra, which had about twice (?) the intake area.

Another thing was to fit an upper strut brace, also from said Cupra in the engine compartment.

Are there similar "easy" things for the Superb 2, 2.0 TDi CFGB engine?

Depends what you mean by better?

If you want more power, a remap is easy and cheap enough these days. Might push up your insurance though.

Hi, no "sortof" illegal things like a remap because it would not be reported to insurance or similar.

I meant things making the engine breathe easier or so. I read the Fabia 1 had a somewhat reduced diameter of intake - not sure if that is true, but a lot of people changed the intake.

The intake is already over-sized for this application so no gains to be made there. Remap from a competent tuner is the easiest and safest option if you want more power. Avoid plug-in tuning boxes.

I've fitted upper strut brace to my Skoda Superb II. Handling is much better. Car is much nicer and "easier" to drive. Ideally could do with some lowering springs, but I won't be able to get to my work without loosing oil sump :)

Sounds interesting,

could you do some pictures and/or how-to?

I had a Fabia before where I mounted the Strut Brace from Seat Cupra over the engine.

Is this a Volkswagen Strut Brace or 3rd party? What is the VW Number on that thing?

Rear strut brace made a bigger difference to mine, cured a lot of the 'floaty' rear end the estate has.

Pictures Please?

Sounds very interesting :)

Did you loose trunk space?

Sorry, typed strut brace without thinking, when I actually meant rear ARB.
Just Google 'whiteline ARB' and you'll see them fitted.

It's custom made. I will get some pics and "how to" on weekend.

Hi
Sorry for delay, but I've stabed  myself into hand with one of my knifes, so I was out of order for 2 weeks.

Few pics for how to:

Take off both wipers. Spray some wd40/oil penetrator and wiggle them of the shaft.

Remove both cowl trims. Start from the middle and pull them off gently. It's only "push fit" type fitting. YOu can use narrow nose pliers to make job easier.

UNscrew 2 torx bolts (t30 I think)

Remove metal "wall"

Remove plastic trims

REmove 6x 13mm suspension bolts. Do that in stages, not in one go.

Install strut brace - use same screws. They are long enough.

You will have to cut one trim (if you want. You can just leave hole). Other side can be left without plastic.

Metal "firewall" may need cutting if you really fussy. Mine is not cut, you just have to persuade it to fit ;)
Put everything back together.

Most annoying job is to remove  wiper arms and cowl trim.
