Usb power

Featured Replies

Hi

Does anyone know if the usb power is always on in the front port. I have already worked out that the 2 USB ports in the back are only powered when the car engine is on.

I am wondering as I keep a old phone connected in the car for use with android auto and if i keep it connected over night will it drain the battery power as it will constantly be charging.

USB power is active only when infotainment unit is ON or in stand-by.

So are you saying that the information unit goes into standby mode when you switch off the engine.

. how long does the infotainment unit stay in standby before switching off completely?

Just very few minutes, 2 or 3.

Keep the phone hidden! Personally i just plug my iphone in when i get in if i'm going to need/want it. Otherwise i have an SD card in for music. Spotify doesn't seem to play well on apple devices so i don't bother with that.

Edit: Also, the power to the usb port does turn off after the car is shut off.

I've tried to power a Satnav (TomTom) from the USB, but it wouldn't work as there was too little power. It was done as I was just about to leave, I can't remember if the ignition was on or off.

That usb port is meant mostly for data, if you want to power a satnav or charge something, you should really get a proper charger for the 12v socket.

I have one of those, really good. I have a lot of Anker charging gear, cables, power banks, chargers etc. all are very good quality and never had a problem.

Thanks. I ended up using the 12v car plug that came with the TomTom.  For my car (Mk1 Fab) I use a Belkin charger plug.  I know of Anker equipment, I am very tempted to buy one of their windscreen phone holders.
