Throttle response

Featured Replies

Hi.

I am new to this forum and have purchased a yeti 2.0 diesel front wheel drive.I find yogi accelerates fine on cruise control but when I accelerate using  the accelerator it is pretty sluggish but gets there in the end.I have to apply a bit of pressure to the accelerator pedal to wind her up.Any ideas what it might be as I have only had the car less than a month and its a 17 plate with 16,000 miles. It was fine when I bought it only noticed this strange behaviour tonight. Thanks in advance

Is there anything stuck under the throttle pedal?

Nothing that I can see.

@Iain9164 - Anything means "absolutely anything": I've seen a case where poor throttle response was actually caused by a floor mat stopping the driver getting the last half inch of pedal movement.

Take the floor mats out then try it, I used Yeti Rubber Mats with no problems on two Yeti.

Or you could try changing down a gear, the engine likes to rev, unlike older diesel types.

Hi.Thanks for all the great suggestions. On closer inspection there was a small road chip stuck under the base of the throttle which I found after fishing about with a screwdriver.Car is now running as it should.Yipee.Excellent forum this to share experiences.

Welcome Iain,

It's worth giving the area behind the loud pedal a regular clean.

I'm sure someone on here had the throttle assembly damaged by a trapped stone.

My recently returned PCH Yeti 1.4 L & K was the car in question going back about two years ago when I had just got it. A small stone got stuck in the hole on the righthandside of the accelerator pedal which basically broke it and left the car barely drivable. It is a rare thing to happen but something to be aware of.

I was driving just after having a tow bar fitted and had this lack of acceleration problem. In my case it was a screw that had dropped into the throttle assembly. Took some getting out. I gave the tow bar company an ear-bashing for that on safety grounds.
