ABD's new Bora FMI....

Featured Replies

Thinking of getting one of these (if it would fit) http://www.eurotuner.com/howto/93644/ and stage II revo?

Then thinking of getting a k4 turbo in the future or maybe something bigger, do ya think this size FMI would have the capacity for near 260hp+

Size isn't everything, I found out recently that adding a big FMIC can cause a loss of boost - the turbo needs to fill a greater volume before getting to the engine so more lag and large pipe runs can lead to higher system resistances. I'm sure ABD could quote a max bhp rating for the kit if you asked but I'd think it was more than up to the job of 260bhp.

but a longer inlet route may reduce bhp but it will increase torque ;)

That is the abd racing one I have on my Octry vRs and cannot fault it. If you go to http://impossible-performance.cwc.net/abdracing.htm you can find them there.

Smiffy, if you want to see a few pictures of one fitted to mine, then please let me have your e-mail address, and I will send them to you.

Here are a few from my old car.

God I loved that car

why did you change it des?

why did you change it des?

I had a test drive in a Superb and part ex'ed it............Biggest mistake I've ever made. :(

at least your back in a decent car again ;)

Thanks for the info lads, yeah dont wonna go to big coz of lag and dont wonna go to small coz it might not be upto the job. Looks well smart tho!

Do you no if there is much in fitting one? Are there many bits that have to be cut out of the way?

Thank man but delcac beat you to it!

Quite easy really, just a couple of bits of plastic to cut round the pipework. The long return pipe does hang low though and will require more cutting to hide it away if you want.

If you get a big(ger) FMIC then a bigger turbo will help fill that volume, although it will take a tad longer to spin up too (hybrid will help there, but then on a petrol you just need to rev it up & it will keep boost nicely)

IMHO if you tune it up a fair bit, esp. on the petrols, keeping those temperatures down is essential :D (and yeah I reckon it looks great too)

In the Fabia it's really hidden away on mine (Forge FMIC) as it's more of a stealthy thing, unlike 'The Red Devil' where you can clearly see it's got one (and a big one at that :D )

I have the exact same FMIC as Des and you couldn't really tell mine has one fitted.

Des has cut away the number plate holder and replaced the original grill with mesh.

Whilst I like the cut away bumper but I wanted more of the standard look.

:o :O :o

An IC with a large surface area (or contact area) aids cooling, however a long IC will create a pressure large pressure drop.

So, basically something with a short path length however fat enough to have a large area (and therefore reduce ITs significantly) is the best bet.

It's always worth looking round at other makes of car and seeing what they use.. as std or as an upgrade.

This has been the subject of much discussion as to the look I was trying to achieve. Some say they like the look some don't, that's not really the point. The one and only reason I did it is to get more air to the entire area of the cooler, lower intake temps means better performance.

Many moons ago I used to use a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator in the winter to stop my car over cooling so it warmed up quicker. If you leave large areas of body work in front of the FMIC you have exactly the same effect, inefficient cooling. We don't like that!! :)

I knew all of this...just didn't want to go into a big description.;)

I think if I did more track days then I would seriously consider something similar but as it is....with the crash bar in place....it works fine for everyday driving.

I also cut my bumper away for cosmetic reasons and i get the same response as some like it and others think its OTT but at the end of the day i'm happy with it,plus i'm sure the extra cold air to the intercooler can't hurt:D

Nothing like a big gaping hole in the bumper, so how many of us out there are there?

Ffelan was the original I think, then we have DaveU, Des, dsmithmobile and me, any more out there? We should all have a photo shoot and look like we all need a bit of dental work!!!:D

Thanks Joel i'll keep you in mind........

I'm a fan of the big gaping hole think it makes the car look very aggressive but to make the hole is cheap but to fill it with one of those IC isn't!!!!!!

well it would be great to have a fmic group buy as i would definetly be in ,either jabba or forge .im not in authority to organise one but would be very keen to buy one ;)

It is expensive to fit an intercooler but you know it makes sense;)

plus i've just relised we have things in common,as we are both smiths, both have black vrs's and we both have fox RS5's on our cars, how strange:thumbup:
