BUY CORRECT OIL FROM WHERE ! !

Featured Replies

HI YA GUYS N DOLLS

I have recently bought a 2016 (Mk 3) Superb estate SE Business 2.0 150 diesel with just 11k on the clock.

At some stage I expect to top up the engine oil so thought I would buy some in readiness.

According to my research the correct and latest oil for this engine is as follows;

Castrol Edge Professional LL 111 fully synthetic 5w30.

The LL meaning Long Life and the 111 meaning 3rd generation.

Has anyone actually managed to buy any of this and if so where ?

Talking to many distributors in my area they can only supply what they say are spec equivalent alternatives - so they say.

We are on our way to the year 2020 and clearly I must be missing something here.

Even my local dealer uses some alternative oil from a company called FUCHS because its cheaper for them to buy over Castrol !

Another person from a dealer near where I work said to try a BP petrol station or ASDA  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dealer is at liberty to use whatever oil they desire as long as it meets or exceeds the specification from Skoda. So they generally go for whatever nets them the most profit from their supplier.

Yep - That's the stuff. I would never ever have thought about looking on e'bay - probably because I don't have an account with them although my son does.

Why this product can't be purchased through any of my local suppliers though is almost unbelievable.

It is also troubling that you pay a mortgage these days to have your car serviced at the dealers and they put a cheaper alternative oil in your engine  !  !

@AKASILVERBACK

It's about the specification of the oil NOT the cost. If the oil meets the required spec (e,g VW 507) then it is the cortrect oil. Just like other commodities you can find various prices for what is essentially the same thing. Supermarket petrol for example??

Castrol oils in that spec are available in the shop in my nearest BP petrol station (BP own Castrol)

The only problem is they stock it in relatively small bottles, presumably for topping up rather than changing the oil

Some motor factors sell it in 4 or 5 litre bottles, and can be found online on sites like ebay and Amazon

They are in business to make a profit. If Fuchs for example offer a better deal on 6000 litres of the same spec oil as Castrol, who would you expect them to choose?

Fuchs VW spec oils are better oils than Castrol offer. Fuchs is the OE factory fill supplier to VAG. A German company, it won the VAG UK contract to supply VAG's Quantum brand oil, about 2 years ago, away from Castrol. Fuchs has a blending and bottling plant in Stoke on Trent.

Fuchs has rather interesting XTL/QFX additive technology which give significant low temperature flow advantages over competitors.

As previously said the correct spec oil is.......the correct oil.

Anecdotally, most VAG workshops (VW, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Skoda, Seat) use Quantum oil (i.e. Fuchs) which they source from TPS, the Volkswagen UK owned official parts distributor, much cheaper than retail sources.

Depends on how they order it. Most of the dealers I’ve worked at buy it in bulk for a dedicated tank. That’s delivered by tanker and pretty sure the 208? Litre barrels are the biggest you can order Quantum in.

TPS also supply Quantum oil in bulk as well.

No doubt delivered direct from Stoke-on Trent

I've used comma pro life 5w 30 507 spec around £11 per Litre
